Alaska 50 Year Quilt

Hi All

January 3 is the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Statehood Charter by President Eisenhower. Of course up here it has been in the news for months with retrospective this and retrospective that for months on the news and elsewhere. I must say that the state committee has really tried to include many people in many ways in the celebration. You might have even seen the first ever float from our State in the Tournament of Roses Parade New Years morning.

To keep this on topic, here is a news article and short clip from our local news station and the state commemoration in the form of a quilt. Bert and I are planning on going to the museum this Saturday and I will be sure to get pictures if we are allowed. Here is the link.

How cool! Thanks for the link. I am eager to see some good photos, maybe some close-ups. I hope one of the magazines will do a feature on this quilt. Steve, yes, I did see the Alaska Float in the Parade of Roses. There was a marching band from Brentwood, England, too. I am not sure if the parade is over ... I needed a break! Gotta get my scraps ready to set up a cutting station while I watch the Orange Bowl tonight. GO HOKIES! PAT in VA/USA

Hi Steve,

As a matter of fact, although I saw only a short part of the Rose parade, I did see the Alaska float. Very cool!

Howdy!

The float was fabulous, Steven. Surrounded by Native Americans (why couldn't the tv hosts shut up so we could hear the songs?), the Celebrating Alaska- Spirit of the Wild entry was a real hit, won the National Trophy for best depiction of life in the USA.

The float from Alaska was my favorite one of the parade!!!

Wow, your quilt will be great, you know we will all want to see pictures, right?

G> Hi All

I agree on the float. Wish they would have shown each of the masks up close. Hoping to see up close pictures of the quilt.
