Another means of contact....

This discussion is sort of answering a question I've had about FB. Now and then, I'll get an email from FB that tells me that a friend of mine ( by name) is inviting me to join FB. I've just strongly doubted that they had the time or inclination to do that and wondered what was going on. I get them addressed to Polly Esther and also to Hortense Bufforkington (my real name). Do we suppose that the friends have allowed FB access to their own address books and that's how it has happened? Polly

Most of the email that comes to me with my real name inside is either calling me Ms. Mist, Ms. NightMist, Night, Ms. Drosselmeyer, Frau, or occasionally Ms. Frau Drosselmeyer. DH uses Herr Drosselmeyer as his "real" name, so I just jumped onboard with that.

Isn't it nice to know that all that junk mail comes from literate and culturally aware humans instead of clueless autobots? lol

It's funny - I am probably less open to the world on FB because all my settings are set exclusively to friends but somehow I felt more exposed when posting on the rctq page there as compared to posting here on the newsgroup. Maybe it's because FB has links to the "rest" of my life...... family and non-quilting friends with pictures of all of them. And also because there are names I don't recognize there - I haven't learned everyones' alternate identities yet.

The FB page asked if I had other addresses I used and then wanted my pass word for that. I don't think so. I was able to choose but the idea that anyone would give out thier password to allow a third party into their 'stuff' was really amazing to me. I remember when the lawyering issue came up many years ago here too. : ( The AARP will probably find Stanley given enough time! LOL Taria

Yup!! Your FB name made it easy to figure out who you are - at least for people who 'met' you a while back on rctq. :)

Howdy!

My favorite, so far, has been addressed to Snadra Ellisor.

Meanwhile, over at FB, RCTQ is busy, but not trying to replace the good ol' homeland here on the ng. ;-D
