bad news

Sooooo Friday night DH and i went to the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball game here in Iowa City. It was a damp and rainy night. We were walking to the bus and cut across the damp grass covered with wet leaves. DH went down a steepish slope, so I was smart and walked around to a flatter spot....and fell down!! Sit down.....I broke my leg in three places!! A tib/fib fracture like DD did a couple years ago!! Instead of surgery, they casted me from my toenails to my crotch! It was sooo heavy i COULD not budge it even an inch!! Which means I couldn't plan to go home...let alone to any WEDDINGS!!!! OMG! Today they did a surgery to put an rod and screws in my tibia. Right now I'm all drugged up on morphine and using a laptop checked out from the hospital library. So ploease excuse any typos you find. I still can't believe this has happened two weeks before our son's wedding!!!! I'm glad I had one outfit planned. It will probably be THE wedding outfit. I just hit my pain pump again.....see you later!

She didn't sign her message but I'm pretty sure this KJoger is our Kathyl whose son is to be married in two weeks and then her daughter's wedding is in December. Please be holding her close in your hearts and prayers. Bless her heart. Polly

Good grief, Kathyl! Talk about bad luck -- I hope you can learn to manage the cast in time for the wedding. But do be careful when you dance with your DS -- no wild frugs or anything, okay? (Just kidding -- please be careful, and I do hope you're feeling well enough to truly enjoy that wedding.)

Hugs, that is so tough. Don't spare the morphine for now - make sure you keep on top of the pain. Thank goodness as you said the outfit is at least going to work.

Rest and think healing thoughts. Talk about the pits!!!

Oh, Kathyl, that is soooooooo sucky! I am so sorry. May the pain meds keep you comfy and may the healing go smoothly. Think about using a wheelchair for the weddings- deck it out like a throne with flowers and ribbons- and 'hold court' from there. And thank goodness you were so smart and well-organized to get all your projects for the wedding(s) done well in advance- clever gal!

Sending cyber hugs and The HairyButt Gang are sending sloppy doggy-breath kisses.

Oh No! What a terrible shame. Kathyl I'm devastated for you. After all the ups and downs of this past year, this has to be the crowning disaster. And, after all the things you have arranged, and made, for the weddings. I do hope you can manage to get to your DD's next month. So very sorry. Don't know whether to hope that you are the better patient or DH the better carer? (little smile) . In message , snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com writes

Oh no! I don't know what to say except I'm so-o-o-o-o sorry you're going through all this right now. What awful timing! I wish I could rewind the clock for you and make it all go away. Since I can't do that, though, I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers for rapid healing and relief from pain. And if you need anything, you know where I am!

OUCH!!! What a dreadful thing to happen at any time, but particularly now. DS2 had a morphine drip/pump when he had his hip surgery and it was very effective BUT watch out for the hallucinations (he kept telling his brother to stop bothering him - DS1 was 40+ miles away!) and the itching skin (he was given antihistamines for that).

Hope you feel better soon and good luck with the weddings, I'm sure they will go well - let's face it the main idea is to get the kids married off ;-)

Certainly not to the same level but it reminds me of my grandmother. She broke her foot a couple of weeks before my cousin's wedding. Refused to go the hospital or doctor. Had the dress and shoes. Silver strappy shoes. We had to cut her shoe apart and duct tape it to her foot. My brothers were her crutches. 'The grandmother of the bride is NOT walking down the aisle on crutches!'

I'm with Leslie. Go with the wheelchair decked out to the max! Coordinate with your outfit.

Heal soon.
