Directory question - need input

pdf format is also an option. One advantage to pdf is that it makes the file size smaller so the download time for the folks on dial-up is less. Just another thought. There's another thread going on as well about using Google. I'm not so comfortable about putting our info online or else I'd just post it on my website and password protect it.

I did warn you about opening Pandora's box! The original thread has also split into 2 others as well. What have I done?

I would certainly send an RTF version. No sense sending it out if folks can't use it and I want to make sure that everyone gets to use it regardless of their computer experience. Everyone has been wonderful with their suggestions! And this wasn't even a 'test' message!!! :>)

I'm right there with you, Pat. What do we care where it's filed so long as we can get it when we need to? I'm still puzzled about why we must click 'start' to stop. Polly

Yes, indeed, Polly. Of all the puzzling things about computers, that does seem to me, also, to take the biscuit. . In message , Polly Esther writes

I don't care what the format is -- I just want to be included this time! I need addresses, etc. for possible-squishee-receivers!

Pdf would work fine for me - I don't sort the list or anything. Of course, with pdf people can no longer sort according to whatever (as many people seem to do, or want to do).

ok now I will ROFLOLOLOLOLOL PDF does *not* make files smaller I found that out the hard way last night my PDF files were becoming almost twice the word files I had originally written and caused all sorts of mayhem as a result :-( also one can't sort information one gets on a PDF.

I am not sure I would be happy to have personal info stored in such a forum. I would want to check it out further I think. But this might be useful for other rctq "activities".

Big difference between "all word" PDF and PDF incorporating pics though.

maybe but nearly doubling the file size in the process? *yikes* I may just go back to writing the patter directly onto the WebPages - it allows more pageviews before exceeding bandwidth and is a *lot* less frustrating for me

Being just a half step above illiterate, I like something that I can print out on minimum number of pages, with easy to read typeface. I like it to be easy to download and print out. I don't know about formats. PAT

Correct. I don't understand the problem though. Those who want the text version (almost always with the comment that they don't have/don't use/cannot use excel) can't sort that anyway. So, what would be the difference?

Those who never sorted still cannot and those who can will still be able to.

You can't change pdf though. No sorting, no making birthday column consistent, no deleting duplicate entries.....

I don't have Excel, only Works, so I guess text for me. Thanks for all the hard work. I can't even imagine the amount of hours you put into this.

If I remember correctly the first directory I got I was asked which way I wanted it and i asked for the spreadsheet way and all I got was gobbledgook, so then I asked for the text version and I got words!!!!

So, that must be the way I need to receive it.

Thank you so much again, Martha joysjane

I haven't received the text version -- but if it is in a Word table --- that is definitely sortable if set up properly.

Works has a spreadsheet component.... You have to be sure to open the document in the appropriate corner of Works -- or it will look like hieroglyphics!

Directory questions: What is the directory? How do you get in it? What info will be in it? Is it too late to be included? Other questions: What does OT stand for? This one drives me crazy, could it be as simple as 'Old Topic'? That doesn't always seem to fit the posting. What does BSR mean? I know the basics like DD, LOL, SIL, etc. There are others but can't think of them(my mind has wandered away again) so will ask as I see them. How do I add a quote or some other cute and or funny nonsense with my signature? Do I have to type it every time I post? I know I may have to endure some wise cracks from ya'll, but that's what I love about this group, it's collective sense of humor and witty ways!!

I like the excel format. Like you I like to play with rearranging info.

Thanks for doing this!
