WOW!! Thank you for a lightning speed response, I really appreciate it. I feel smarter already. One more comment, I reply by clicking on the 'reply' at the bottom of the posting or start a new posting by clicking on 'start a new topic'. I don't have a clue how to post any other way, yes, I am that illiterate!! There are many things I do know, this just isn't one of them!!!

I'm afraid I don't know how you are posting to the group so I can't help you with that - usually post using the email programme I got with my computer :-) - see I'm not much smarter ;-) what I do know is the result of a years worth of computer courses done in-between working

I don't have Excel either, because I got the Lotus products (WordPro,

1-2-3, etc.) free with my computer. I have found that 1-2-3 will open most .xls format spreadsheets created by Excel, and I do prefer the spreadsheet format for the directory. If you don't have spreadsheet software that will handle the .xls format, Microsoft has viewers and coverters available on their website: . The viewers will allow you to open, view, and print Excel files. Converters will allow you to convert the .xls file to one of several other formats.

There are also readers that will allow you to read a Word document if you don't have Word. My WordPro will handle most Word documents, but once in a while I come across one it won't handle, so the Word reader is useful.

Marcella, I only mentioned pdf as an option for folks that don't want to sort and do all the fancy stuff or have the PC expertise to toss and turn it into a variety of formats. They just want a hard copy of the Directory to read. Since most folks have Adobe reader on their PC, I thought this might be an easy option. Basically one click to open, and one click to print.

But thanks for responding, some folks may not know what pfd are and are not!

Alice,

Thanks for doing this!

I don't have time to read every post right now, but I wanted to throw in my two cents.

1) I would prefer Excel 2) google has figured out that some people don't have excel.. hence:

Good luck!

Joan is using Mozilla and posting thru google groups, assuming i'm reading the propertys on her post correctly. i have no idea how to add signature info to bottom of your posts tho, Joan. you could possibly check the help files in Mozilla. that said, it may not work when posting thru google. your google acct might have a place to add signature info tho. takes some searching round your acct on google to see what you can and cannot do there. fwiw, jeanne

In the Tools menu, select Account settings. Select the account you want to set the signature for. There is a check box that says "Attach this signature"; check that box and fill in the blank with the name of the file that has your signature line. The 2 dashes under my name and the lines below it are in my signature file.

Thanks for the link, but even if folks did not have Excel, there is an excel viewer and always the option for the text version. I am not too sure about putting our Directory online using the Google application. This option, in addition to the security issues, would require folks to have a google log-in and I want to avoid this requirement for our Directory members.

Thanks so much, Alice (and LN, of course!) for doing this. :) As for me, I really like the spreadsheet so that I can sort and do interesting things with the list. I really don't like the idea of putting my info on the Google site; there's something about storing data online that leaves me feeling vulnerable.

I believe if you use Google to post, you can add the siggy info by editing your account info. I think I saw an area for entering a signature.
