drat! My cutting mat did not come home ...

I was going to spend my long weekend finishing up a baby quilt and just discovered my cutting map did not come home for the weekend. A fellow teacher had borrowed it for a sewing project in her class, and I forgot to get it back from her. So, I guess once I get some housecleaning (yuck) tasks done, I'll go buy a new one. Hmm, what else do you think I might find?

Drat!!! You must go shopping for a new cutting mat? How terrible.;-) Maybe you will find a quilt book, quilt magazines, new rulers or embellishments. Sounds like a fun trip.

Has anyone else noticed that new cutting mats stink? Buying a new mat isn't so bad, but having to smell it might be. I figure the right order of things is to buy a new one well before you need it and to buy it in summer. Let it air out in the garage or on the porch-- anywhere it can lie flat, won't be in the sun, but still will get plenty of air and breeze. Then the trick is remembering where its hidden when you need it.

a new mat, 2 new rulers, a few new blades, 5 fat quarters in blues, a can of basting spray (I have never used spray basting before; I thought I needed to give it a try), some alphabet beads and a sorting box for my special needs students and it was all ON SALE.

I am washing and drying the flannel for the baby quilt borders and backing now.

I've been using cutting mats long before they hit quilting (doing "paste-up" for graphics work) and they have ALWAYS stank to high heaven when new. My dad used to stick'em in a garbage bag with a bar of deodorant soap (if they were unbearable) for a day or so - the stench would disappear completely. Always worked for us!!
