Has anyone felt the Gee's Bend fabrics?

One of the fabric companies has issued a new line of fabrics and kits based on the Gee's Bend quilts. Has anyone seen the fabric in person? How is the feel? I have a special friend who would love a Gee's Bend quilt. I hesitate to order on-line until I know the quality of the fabric.

Oh my gosh - I just saw the fabrics at my LQS a few days ago. The fabrics have a beautiful hand! I expected the Gees Bend fabrics to be more primitive, but they are gorgeous. They are smooth & the colors are vibrant. I think you can trust what you see on line. I just looked at Hancock's of Paducah website to see if they have them & they do & I would say the colors I saw were slightly more vibrant. Keep us posted & let us know what you decide to do.

I finally found them locally and liked the quality. When I saw the yardage I thought of Amish quilts rather than Gee's Bend. I still plan to make a Gee's Bend style for my friend after the first of the year but am planning several Amish quilts for myself. The colors are rich and the "hand" is good. The ads say "hand dyed" but I can't see how yardage like that can be truly hand dyed. Will the dye lots stay consistent? Would not allow myself to bring any home this week as I knew I would play with it instead of finishing the current projects. Hope it sells well enough to become a reorderable fabric.

I think I read at Hancock's of Paducah website that the Gees Bend fabrics need to be prewashed. Makes me think that the term "hand dyed" has a broader interpretation than I think it does.
