inklingo

Hello everyone

Somebody posted yesterday about something called inklingo. If nothing else, I am a curious person so I went looking for more info. It looks great. I am really intrigued. IF it really does all it says, it looks interesting.

But......., that got me thinking. Like with the stuff they advertise/ sell on TV. IF this were really the eighth wonder of the world, the be all/end all, wouldn't it be more widely known/published/talked about?????

I have been a member of this board for a few years now (lost count, but it's more than 3), and yesterday was the first time I have ever heard of this. I try to read posts everyday (don't always manage, but I do keep up.) I subscribe to several magazines (Fons & Porter, American patchwork and quilting, the quilter magazine) and I have NEVER seen a reference to this.

So, what's the deal on this? Is it worth it? Does it really make life easier? What about machine piecing?

I'm waiting to hear from all you experts before plunging in!!! How's that for restraint?

There are so very many products out in the world that it really depends upon your local shops and the magazines you read what you will see most often.

Inklingo has been mentioned on this newsgroup a number of times. But, we are a busy group and it is certainly possible to miss things!

The author was on Simply Quilts but if you didn't watch the show....

I believe she self-publishes her books and inklingo product so if your local shops don't seek out things that aren't auto-shipped from large companies then they wouldn't carry it.

Her patterns/templates are available through Electric Quilt but if you don't have that product you might not know that. Even though you see an EQ ad every issue of Fons and Porter and American Patchwork.

There's a freebie trial of inklingo, it seems the logical thing would be to download it and try it out and see if you like it.

I think it's a neat way to do hand piecing. That's her niche - cool hand piecing. Other people do cool machine piecing stuff so you should seek them out for your machine piecing questions.

Hi Claudia, I have written about Inklingo before, and am a firm proponent of it. Love the concept and the results. This is a fairly new product, and those of us who are fans are trying to spread the word as much as we can. The first 2 collections came out on CDs, the third as a book plus CD. But they have been slow to get out into the retail world. (Stores are reluctant to carry software that is so new, and not well known.) That is one of the reasons Linda has changed the delivery of the product.

Yes you can machine piece with Inklingo. For the "tricky" shapes that require set in seams the "crosshairs" at the intersections of the seams are wonderful.... your stopping point is well marked. In fact Collection 2 was designed with machine piecers in mind. Think of using any of the half or quarter square triangle papers to make half/quarter square triangle units. Then imagine being able to do the same thing, but instead of having paper to tear off, the lines are on the fabric itself. You can also print a light fabric, layer with a dark fabric that is not printed and go to town. Flying geese are wonderful done with Inklingo squares and so on.

My suggestion for you, and anyone interested/intrigued by the possibilities is to download and try the free collection. It is a no risk chance to see for yourself the way Inklingo works and whether or not you like it. Do read the download instructions, and the FAQs, there have been a few problems, most solved by reading these things. (Including Linda's sister, who thought she knew enough about computers to not need to read the instructions. )

Try it, you will probably like it, and become as much a fan as the rest of us. (You might even try some hand piec> Hello everyone
