interesting quilt show

Hi,

I went to this very interesting quilt show today at a local gallery. It featured the traditional quilts of three differnt cultures and the stories behind them. One was actually weaving, rather than quilting, but it is from our local aboriginal culture, the Sto;lo Nation, one was from the mennonite culture, and the third was called Ralli. Anyhow these Ralli quilts were so beautiful, I had never heard of them, but they come from Pakistan and it is traditional form and the history of it was quite fasinating, but the most interesting things was how similar the patterns were to some of the traitional quilt blocks from here. Also there was whole cloth type ones with amazing stictching, as well as appliqued ones. But they were all hand stitched. I have never seen so many stitches in my life. Anyhow it was a different type of quilt show than I am used to seeing, but it was so beautiful, so I thought I would share. The Ralli women make some very beautiful quilts, well all the quilts were, but these were new to me so Im all excited about them :)

From where? Earth? :-) Geometry is mathematics, and that's pretty universal. People marvel at similarities between this culture and that, how some concepts seem to spring up independently on opposite sides of the planet... It's fun stuff to observe, learn about, and discuss, but a lot of it comes down to a simple basic: folks is folks. ;-)

Enjoy.

Hi J*,

LOL! I love it! Or we could connect thru folk dancing... or boardgames... or casino gambling... or picking up litter... or model railroading... or making earmuffs for people who live in the desert but can't afford hats or aluminum oxide to prevent them from sunburning their ears... But God forbid we connect thru some abstract concept! :-D

I gotta stop typing - I'm laughing so hard the tears are coming down my cheeks and I can't see the screen anymore!

Thank you - I sorely needed that!

Thanks for the link. I had just made a note about Ralli quilts to google for information. You did the work for me.
