Ironing is dangerous to health

screw the iron, i'm more worried about your foot. another reason everyone should keep a wee bottle of arnica tablets at the ready. i used these when ds was about 7yo. he and a mate were trying to lift a storm water drain cover. these are heavy metal grates...about 2 inches thick and 20 inches square. they got one end up and ds was apparently holding on to that trying to lift it off completely when he lost hold and it fell on the tip of his middle finger putting a rather large deep dent in the flesh right behind the nail. comes running in the house crying and whatnot. i shoved his hand under cold water, ran to kitchen for the arnica, returned to bathroom, gave him two tablets to suck on while hugging him and rambling on about the danger etc of such an activity (what were they thinking, eeeeeeek). after about ten minutes i gave him two more tablets and a bandaid round the sore bit and sent him back out to play. i thot for sure there'd be a nasty bruise, maybe black under the nail or even lose the nail it was that bad at the time. i checked the finger a few days later and to my surprise all that remained was the tiniest of scrapes behind the nail and nothing else. no bruise, no black nail, nothing else. i watched it for a couple more weeks in case i was seeing things and not a thing every developed. my kids were raised on homeopathic remedys and that one event sure made me a firm believer. if given asap or even later if you're out and dont have any at hand, they will reduce or halt the bruising we often get from unavoidable or avoidable happening. i do hope you're foot is just bruised but do take care and get that damn iron off such a high shelf, eeeeeeeek. nothing heavy should ever be up so high, could have hit you in the head and caused all manner of injury. hugz, j.

No, it's not broken (foot OR iron) but just badly bruised and hurts like h*ll.

We are somewhat curious as to how you came to be ironing 6 feet up. Also - you could have a fracture that wouldn't immediately show up on a x-ray. Treat that bruise kindly. Elevate and ice as often as you can. Ice in a beverage of your choice is also recommended. So sorry. Polly

The ironing board/iron are on a rack that hangs on the wall - you know up and out of the way.

The urgent care doc said that if I am still having problems with it 2-3 froms now to come back in and they will have to do a bone scan because not all fractures/breaks show up immediately.

Yikes, Cindy, You're lucky you didn't crush a few bones!

Never heard of arnica tablets.....

I have ALWAYS hung my ironing board/iron either on the wall or the back of the door. That's how my mom did it and that's the way I do it. Hate having it down and in the way.

I have one of those racks and see how that could happen. Hope the foot is better in a couple of days and you don't have any breaks. Put you feet up and find some fun quilt books to look at maybe. Take care, Taria

Glad your foot is OK and your iron works.

Mine fell off the ironboard and doesn't work anymore.

Youch! Glad your foot isn't broken, Cindy, but boy I bet it hurts like h*ll! Now is the time to pamper yourself. Hot beverage of choice, and a comfy spot to sit with that foot up. Feel better soon!

We have a name for this is my family. It is PURPLE TOE DISEASE. IT seems to have spread to the foot. Breaks are optional. IT is defined as when something ordinary goes wrong and your toe turns purple, Mom had a unset with the sewing machine table leg twice. I did it getting into the shower.

ICe rest and some sort of stitching will help.Nurse kitties are very sympathetic but sometimes cause harm.
