memory quilt question

I would fuse a piece of the sweater to some prewashed muslin, then perhaps make some sort of a 9 patch with the smaller pieces and some pants pieces. This way the sweater won't have a chance to stretch. Make sure that you zig zag along the edges before you piece. You should also quilt the sweater pieces well. Depending on how you were planning to quilt the quilt, you could also quilt the pieces first in perhaps a checkerboard pattern to make sure the sweater piece will lay quietly while you are sewing the rest of the quilt.

Do be sure, before you start, that you have washed the sweater under the same conditions as you would the quilt, so that any shrinkage will happen before it is incorporated into the quilt. It has probably been washed before, but it might have had delicate treatment! . In message , hh writes

You will definitely need to stabilize the sweater. I'd suggest a medium weight iron-on stabilizer. It will give just the right amount of "stiffness" so you can work well with it.

Because the sweater is more bulky than the pants, I'd suggest a very simple block, or even two blocks of each one to fill in the other places of the large, elongated nine-patch. The goal is to focus on the pictures.

Since you seem to have got the photo technique sorted, would it work to use photos of the sweater instead, maybe including a photo of your father wearing it?
