WOW! What a marvelous art form! I am just blown away by the color, and the creativity! I bookmarked the site. Maybe before I die I will get to make a Mola.

I added my mola to my yahoo photo's site - look in the European block swap folder - it's the fish :-)

I have never tried to stitch a mola (I'm not an appliquer). Last summer I stopped at an estate sale and bought a beautiful mola -- stitchery about 11 x 17. It was matted and farmed in early 1970's hot lemon yellow that overwhelms the stitchery. Only $5! (If I ever do re-frame it I'll pay a whole lot more.)

Good heavens, Jeanne!!! Those are gorgeous to look at, like Monet paintings, but I don't think I'll be making one anytime soon!! Just the thought makes my heart go pitty-pat!!! LOL (thanks for sharing the eye-candy site though, lovely art form).

I like the fish! It resembles the koi in my pond!

When we lived in Panama, the molas started at $5. I couldn't afford to buy one then :-(

thanks Bonnie I designed that one myself :-) what is hard to see in the photo is that there are 3 fabrics being used - the blue batik top layer, a layer of dark peach with blue fish print and a layer of plain peach batik

ahhhh, i was wondering how it could be a mola with only 2 layers, so i just cant see the third one. must go back after lunch and see if i zoom in on it, i can then see it. sure is a beauty, great job, jess :) is there anything quilty you havent tried yet? jeanne

hey, all that time on the road across country might well be the perfect time to design and get it started. just one wee project to carry and work on. this type should last the whole trip or least part of it once ya get the hang of how it works. i have total faith in your abilitys to do this, TL. just gotta decide on the design you wanna try and it needn't be fancy or complicated. simple can be just as effective on your first go. have a great trip, wish i was going with ya. theres some places you'll see that i've never had the chance to see along that route. i quite enjoy car trips if theres enough stops and visits along the way. jeanne

it's very subtle - I will go play with EQ and make a picture of it with more colours so you can see the difference better.

yep there is tons I haven't tried yet LOL as you know I just like to try new things

But, Jeanne - you *know* I don't do hand work!! IMNSHO, it's tedious, and it also makes my hands hurt. I'll just enjoy the lovely ones others make, and stick to crocheting. (I wish you were going, too!!)
