My quilty Christmas gifts

I got a subscription to Fons and Porter Love of Quilting, the brights package of Essential Threads and a spool of black and one of white. I think my kids thought I was kind of weird to ask for thread for Christmas. I also got the Ikea napkin holder that someone mentioned on here a while ago.

No quilty gifts here....

I did get a new IPOD and ten of the "Elm Creek Quilters" books. And a hint from my hubby, a pair of workout clothes from underarmor.

I received a cash gift and bought a really neat iron (I'll review it a little later after I've used it more) and a package of 15 spools of delightfully variegated threads.

I am NOT a sewing machine collector. I repeat, I am NOT a sewing machine collector. (Okay, I'm convinced:)) Really, I'm not, but I have a beautiful black FW & DH surprised me shortly after I purchased the black one, with a white FW & then I decided I should have a tan one to complete my color collection, so DH got me one for Xmas. I do not want a free-arm FW, I do not want a free-arm FW, I do not want a free-arm FW, . . . . . . .

Oooh! Enjoy your new iPod, Juli! I love mine.

Quilty gifts, huh? DH surprised me with a gift certificate to the LQS, bless him! Kids and grandkids didn't go for the quilty theme, but that's okay -- they gave me stuff I really like (especially the 12-bottle wine cellar! Woohoo!).

I got a new rotary cutter (always good to have a spare!) that came with a weeny little 5x17 cutting mat.

I got a new mp3 player too, it is bigger and fancier than my other one. Again, always good to have a spare.

The most useful thing I got was a beanbag lap desk. The top is textured, but I bet I can sling a drawing board cover on there and it will be really useful.

I also had my guilty pleasure encouraged with another JD Robb novel. (G)

My quilty Christmas present: My DH, bless him, could not think of anything quilty that I didn't already have... BUT, during a shoping trip to the nearest Home Depot, he came across a set of spring-clamps (the kind you squeeze to open and shut) that were heavy duty plastic and a perfect size to clamp down a quilt-top/batting/backing layers onto our dining room table for basting! (I'd been using those things that hold picnic-tablecloths down that slide on... did't work all that great.) Neat-o!! Now I need to make another quilt to try them out!

Yeah, right! Keep telling yourself that! Pretty soon, after hundreds of repeats, the "not" seems to drop out of the sentence!

My DH bought me a $100 gift card from JoAnn's, my Dad gave me fifty bucks and I used it to buy two books off of Amazon, my DD bought me a Splenda cookbook (way cool), My DD H, DSM, and DB bought me a pizza recipe book, a nice towel that was embroidered-I'd rather be stitchin, then stuck here in the kitchen! (Although I love to cook just as much) and some fancy popcorn. YUMMO! My DA and DU bought me a beautiful necklace and earrings and some solid lotion bars. Gotta run....still in the process of making some pot holders for in-laws Christmas get together!

Well - I'll have to keep in mind that I really don't have to room for more machines! As it is, I have my old Singer Genie in the spare room closet. I'm only keeping it for sentimental reasons, but it did serve me well for many years. It was made in France - who knew. Somewhere I read that the Singer Genie will be a collectible one day. It's backed me up more than once when I have my Viking in for servicing.

I received the Neutrals package of Essential Threads, a flexible bobbin holder, and a new adjustable chair which adjust high enough so that I don't have to sit on a cushion to reach my sewing machine! Santa really paid attention to my "hints"!

Nothing directly quilty, but DH gave me a Tom-Tom (my first venture into assisted driving), so it should become easier to locate obscure fabric stores :-) Roberta in D

Good luck with your GPS! I love mine. If a quilt or fabric store is out there, these things find it! Recently we were in St. Augustine Florida and it was wonderful to punch in "parking" and have it locate the nearest parking area. No more roaming!

A short note to all with "machines in the closet". Please be sure to pull that machine out and sew a bit on it every so often, like every couple of months. I had a machine that I kept for back up and didn't do that. It ended up needing major servicing because the lube and all got old and "froze" the parts together. sigh. So learn from my experience and keep the back up machine oiled/cleaned and sewing so it is ready when you need it.

My DH gave me a GPS for my birthday last year. I was less than thrilled - it seemed more like a toy for boys than something I wanted. Never mind the fact that I can get lost in a nanno-second. Well, Lucy (she has a name) & I are best friends & we became best friends about 24 hours after I got her. The only drawback I have discovered is turning the volume way down & talking with my friends & not hearing Lucy's precise directions! I'm getting better about that now. She has saved my bacon so many times & now all my friends have a GPS as well. Best invention since sliced bread!

She was great, the directions & the car. While I don't care to haveone in the Cruiser (something else to worry about losing ), I do relysometimes on the built-in compass (above the mirror) and the occasionalprintout from MapQuest. It gets me to the important quilty places,QuiltShops in Granbury, Waxahachie, Paducah, Houston, Princeton Illinois. I can always talk to myself: "Turn right in 300 ft. Prepare to turn right. TURN RIGHT NOW!!!... Turn right at next intersection; prepare to retrace your route." When I really need a GPS-type thingy I'll go back for the M-B. ;-P

Cheers! R/Sandy --I could work for RandMcNally...or MapQuest p.s. the M-B nav is dvd based, not as up-to-date as more modern GPS but as an > My DH gave me a GPS for my birthday last year. I was less than thrilled -

I would *love* to have a GPS one day! I get lost at the drop of a hat, since my sense of direction got lost before it found me. ;) I give good directions, though.
