Off Topic Vent - 90 damn degrees in Germany

Okay, you guys in England and so on may be in the same boat, BUT..........

When we moved to Germany from Arlignton VA, hubby said well, will miss a few years of those ninety degree nights.

Only we havent, and we dont have central air, and its h otter her than in Virginia, or the Cayman Islands (where daughter lives) or Tenneriffe (where an online friend is).....

And I'm having hot flashes from hell on top of it all.

HELP ME PLEASE. CHOCOLATE WONT WORK, IT WOULD JUST MELT!

The radio chatter I was listening to this morning while dressing was having a great time with the news from Berlin. I was only half paying attention - but the news story was about a wild hog. Seems the boar crashed through a sliding glass door, ran in the bedroom and jumped in bed with a 70 year-old couple. Bit the husband. Husband doing okay. Hog cannot be located. It sounds like you folks in Germany are just having lots of fun. Polly

Howdy! Ah, another Weather Wimp!

It's been 100º+ all week here; so what else isn't new?

109º, 107º, welcome to summer (I hate summer). Of course, we do have air conditioning, 2 big fat units running all day and most of the night (got down to 90º at midnight!). Texas isn't the only place that gets hot-hot, but we do enjoy our whining rights. This week our Roberta from Munich is over here, next door in Ft.Worth; the timing is not her choice. She'll be glad to get back to Germany.

Btw, for years Mercedes Benz didn't build an a/c system that worked over here; it got cooler, but not Cold; they just didn't think it was all that important in Germany. Then they teamed up w/ Chrysler; now MB has Cold a/c. But I still take the PT Cruiser to the quilt shops. ;-P

Hang in there, Barb. Send me your addy in private; I'll send something cool. ;-)

It seems like all the really hot years seem like the cool ones to me. When it is real hot I run the air without hesitation, not as hot days I am cheaper. This house I'm in now doesn't have a pool. I'm going to visit my pool tomorrow (may even see DS who is care taking it for now!) The one thing that saves us here are the cooler nights. I'm not sure I could stand the hot nights you guys get in Texas. DH says it won't be long till I'm complaining that it is too cold. I can't wait! Taria, proud to be a weather wimp.

Geez Sandy -- what a piker griping about a measley 107 - 109 degrees. You can start to really kvetch when it gets above 110 and STAYS there! 35 years living in Lizard Land (aka Phoenix) and I saw more whole WEEKS where it stayed above 110!!!!!! That's one of the reasons I jumped at the chance to move to Magnoliaville (aka Atlanta) :-))). I well remember the day the temp topped out at 122 and they had to close Phoenix Sky Harbor! There was no data available on the effects of that kind of temp on the airplane engines so the FAA said the airport was closed! Seems they only test jet engines to heat up to 120. Nasty, nasty, NASTY weather!!!!!!!!! CiaoMeow >^;;^< . PAX, Tia Mary >^;;^< Angels can't show their wings on earth but nothing was ever said about their WHISKERS!! But yuu see, really I'm not. A guy once told me the hottest summer night he ever spent was an May night in Arlington Vireginia (the humidty from hell)

But in arlington, everywhere, even most of the projects have air conditioning.

Besides, Ive been here for two years now and not acclimated.

Plus its so dry here, I figure if it doesnt rain shortly, theyre gonna tell us we can't even grill.

Gave up on my yard a while back, although my neighbors, who have a jungle, soak their's three times a day.

Its the hotflashes on top of it all that really kills me..hehe

Thanks butterfly, I printed that one out.

Even without ninety degree nites, the darned hot flashes make me feel like I can't stay fresh for an hour or so.

Start taking some ginger! It's practically a miracle cure for hot flashes and night sweats. I finally settled on three 500 mg capsules a night. I had night sweats so bad no amount of HRT made any difference at all. I was even on one of the highest dose birth control pills for a while and it didn't make any difference. Now I just take the ginger root capsules.

I may do that. Undersstand that right now, I take nothing, absolutely nada, zip.

My German dr had recommended red clover, but the research on that shows its not helpful and I have been looking at black cohosh

This looked interesting for those of us with night sweats. The only problem I see (other than the cost!) is that where I get soaked is just ABOVE where that top stops! I may try it anyway.

I'm glad I'm not in Phoenix where my DD is.

I would have had that sopping wet by morning. Long sleeves for someone with night sweats? They've got to be joking!

Howdy! I understand, Barb, truly.

My doc recommended Black C/Kohosh for the hot flashes, as well as Vitamin E. So far, they help (I don't miss the hrt meds). Good luck.
