OT - bonking myself in the head

I don't believe it. I just do not beLIEVE it! I just read the label on my safe-to-eat gluten-free cookies. I found out about the Celiac in Feb. and found these. They have eggs in them!!! I found out in June I am allergic to eggs and a WHOLE bunch of other things. But in my mind the gluten-free cookies were already safe to eat. I didn't even think to check. sigh. Maybe now no more itchy spots at all!

There are NO "safe" commercial products.

You MUST check the label EVERY time that you purchase a commercial product, because they can change the recipe at any time. I learned the hard way regarding milk products.

Also, beware of ingredients that may contain multiple other ingredients. For example, a given brand of artificial sweetener can come in versions that contain or do not contain milk products. If a cookie manufacturer used that artificial sweetener and it happened to contain milk products, they do NOT have to list milk as an ingredient on the cookie's package. They only have to list the artificial sweetener. For me, that cookie is not safe to eat as I have no way of knowing whether it actually contains a milk product or not. You may find similar issues regarding gluten.

So glad you did discover it though, Karen. You've had so much to deal with, I'm not surprised you didn't think to check. The good news is that you know now.
