OT: He didn't get it

We have about five weeks before layoffs, and while they haven't come out and said that DH will lose his job, it's almost assured because of the structure of things. They hired a man who most of the staff couldn't stand, said they wanted a change in management style and atmosphere. Whatever. I honestly don't know what we will do. Finding a job that will support us won't be easy and almost certainly will require us to move from here. I'm so sad and really scared.

Sunny; First of all {{{{Hugs to you and DH}}}}

Second: have him sign up for every job search available: Monster, Careerbuilders, Yahoojobs, etc and post his resume! you never know!

Even if you have to move, some companies pay for that. good luck my friend! amy in CNY

Sunny, just remember that when God closes one door He opens another. Have faith and He will provide. I'm sorry to hear about the whole situation for you and I hope something comes up soon so that you don't have to move. Good luck and God bless you.

I am so sorry, Sunny. I know how stressful it can be. My DH was laid off 6

1/2 years ago--he had worked for this company for 35 years! We had no idea what we were going to do--knew we would probably have to move and really weren't looking forward to that! Prayed lots and DH found a job with another telecommunications company with a few weeks. We did have to move and I was not happy about it but I packed up and headed to NE La. Since moving here joined the quilt guild, started taking classes at the LQS (luckily just five minutes from our house) and have met so many good friends! Prayers and good thoughts on the way for you and your family!

Take one step at a time - help your DH get multiple copies of his resume printed and post or deliver them to companies he thinks he could work for. Public Relations departments might be one to aim for.

I am so sorry for you and your DH, I honestly know how you are feeling - it happened to us 15 years ago - we are now both retired but would have liked to be working.

My prayers for success and best wishes for a speedy solution.

Cheers,

(((((Hugs))))) Of course you're scared -but just about any place you might move to will have people who will become your friends. Just look at this group, we're everywhere!

Crossing fingers that they will give him a good severance package

Oh, dear. Perhaps cooler heads will prevail and staff will be able to explain that the choice of the "other guy" is a poor move. Investigate what the new management style is and how it differs from DH style. Be creative in your search. Seeing that you are in/near a recreational area of Washiongton, is there a marketing company or vacation destination that is open to benefiting from his talents and experience? Perhaps a traveler's journal type publication, having a local tie would be good for them.

Sending good thoughts to you and DH. There has been some mention here about resumes. Disclaimer!! I am NOT a HR expert by any means; I do listen to people and read about personnel matters. As I understand it, the current practice is to submit a resume targeted each time. IOW, tweak the resume to suit the specific position or company. So, one would not print an all purpose resume; but would have a couple variations on hand to be ready for the final polish.

With your background in journalism, Sunny, I am sure you have a way with words so you can proof read the letters and resumes to help your DH. See, now you have something positive to do, rather than just fretting. Take care. Pat in Virginia

Amen to that! I was hiring for an administrative assistant position in a marketing firm, and I'd get resumes from people who were seeking "a responsible position in a law office" or who stressed their "extensive knowledge of medical terminology" as a benefit they would bring to the position. If I remember correctly, I even had one who thought her experience in law enforcement would be advantageous to us. They either sent the same resume and cover letter to every place they applied or forgot to customize it for our position. With the number of applications companies receive for open positions today, the resume has to be on target.

Then there was the applicant who prepared her cover letter and resume in Excel! Each line was a separate row in an Excel spreadsheet. I gave her points for creativity, but I didn't give her the job!

That is real bummer. Maybe it won't happen, so think positive. If it does,he has to get on with the search right away. Good luck. John
