OT Here we go again

This morning at 3:30AM another fire broke out in the Malibu area of Los angeles County. It is near Pepperdine University [for those who want to google the location] As of right now it has burned 2200 acres,

35 houses lost. There are 23 aircraft in the air fighting it, including a converted DC-10 airplane, and 1700 firefighters on the line. This area is the same are where the devastating fires were about 6 weeks ago.

The winds have not brought the smoke over my way - yet.

They predicted the fearsome Santa Ana winds this weekend. These desert winds come across the desert floor and blow out to the ocean. They are most often a warm/hot winds. Five days ago crews and planes were brought in from all over the state, in order to have them on standby, and settled in at Camarillo Airport which is here in Ventura County. They were less than 30 miles away from the fire, so were able to respond.

Yesterday there were three small fires intentionally set in the same area, and were able to get those out. They have not ruled out arson on this newest one.

Keep all the firefighters and residents in your thoughts and prayers, please.

There have been 600 firefighters at the Orange Show for several days just in case the fires started back up. HOpefully the resources are ready to stop this thing. 35 homes already gone. I just can't figure out how every fire over there threatens Pepperdine but it is still standing. That DC-10 comes out of the airport a few miles from us. It is an awesome thing but I sure hope it doesn't crash. I Dh suggested they get that kid that started the last fire over there and keep a close watch on him. We are keeping you guys in our thoughts and prayers Ginger. It is so odd. The santa ana winds come from the desert but it isn't windy up here during those events. Driving home from Lakewood last night we were almost blown off the freeway along the foothills of the

We haven't had measurable rain here in a year. A drizzle a few weeks ago, that was it.

They say there are 10,000 people evacuated. Now 40 homes lost, 4500 acres burned. With sunset all the aircraft are grounded until daylight. Much of the terrain is rough and danged near impossible to get ground crews into, slopes pretty much vertical.

There were indications of some young people partying not too far from the ignition point of this fire, last night. No power lines in the area, so they know it was not lines down in the gusty winds last night [gusted to 60 MPH in spots].

I was walking at moonrise and saw the smoky haze over Grandmother Moon's face.

This morning I woke to the smell of smoke once again in the air but there was not the pall of it hanging over us like last time. The sunrise was a bit "wonky" in color but the winds have carried the smoke away from [my] immediate area. Last night I walked as the full moon rose, watching the smoky pall wash her face.

The personal stories of loss are so sad. Some were prepared when they got the door-banging-at 4AM order to evacuate, having learned after last month's fires. Some had their lists and boxes ready then panicked when it actually happened.

thank you all for your prayers. G> Joining in from Mississippi. We hold all of you up in our prayers and close
