OT IE7

Has anyone installed the new IE7 version? Any problems? Any comments? I hesitated since I'm not having any problems with 6. KJ

I had to install it last month because one program I use requires it. No problems, but I still use Firefox whenever possible.

I installed it.....and did have problems. Apparently it was with the add-ons that come with it. When I disabled all the add-ons it worked fine....I have been adding them back in as I see I need them and so far no problems. I would say this is a problem Microsoft is aware of as they give you the option of loading IE without the add-ons. With all the add-ons IE would not open! I do have Norton so that may have been part of the problem.

My DH has used it since it came out. (He is an IT person). He finally convinced me to install it and I have had no problems either. Of course if I do, he is on hand. LOL

i like that you have 'tabs' in one window but each is a separate screen, like a new window. way cool. tho you can still open new windows. now you get the choice when right clicking of 'open in a new tab' or 'open in a new window' keeps me highly amused it does, lol. have fun!! Happy Holidays!!!! christmas in summer in the south pacific, jeanne

Yes, yes and yes, KJ! However, this may well not affect you at all - depends on your set-up. I only know, because DH worked it out - I didn't >ggg<

Our two computers are networked. Some of our data bases are shared. I went to check an address and got a message saying that it couldn't access that database, and waffled on about untrustworthy Internet sites etc. DH finally discovered that IE7 did not know about networks! and considered anything shared like ours as being one on the computer and the other an 'outside', Internet database. It took DH half a day to get it fixed.

I don't know why we changed. DH uses Firefox, but I use IE. I was perfectly happy with the previous one as well.

One thing I did notice - but that is probably my total non-knowledge - yesterday I wanted to print Danielle's January block. With previous IE, I could have a print preview and just print out page one, as I usually do because I don't need the little 'bits' on the end. For this one I had to find a print icon and when I clicked on it, it just printed - no option (that I could see!!) for a preview. I will have to look into this further, when I have a minute. . I've had no problems, although occasionally it will open a popup ad in a new tab instead of blocking it.

I like the zoom feature - pressing the control key and moving the scroll button on your mouse magnifies the page. Quite handy if your eyesight is getting worse, as mine is.

I think it takes getting used to. For browsing it is fine, just the gui is different. I can no longer ftp files and there are known issues with the way ftp works with IE7. I am going back to six for now.

I did. Works fine. Didn't affect my favorites or hotlinks list, and pop-up stopper reappeared in its rightful place, so I'm satisfied. Roberta in D

There's a drop-down next to the print icon that offers a preview. Roberta in D

Gosh! Thank ever so much Roberta. I was dreading another 'instruction' session >gg< I wish I could develop the insight that you and so many here have with these computer thingies >gg< . In message , Roberta Zollner writes

Ok, I'm going to show my total ignorance here. I don't know what a gui is, nor do I ftp files..because I don't know what that is either. Except it means something about protocol. So in this case, I guess 7 would be ok for me. Unless I suddenly get smarter!

No network or Firefox here. Not sure about the printing issues. KJ

Hi DH has been using IE7 for some time now. He really likes it and has been suggesting I should change also. He has found a way to FTP files with it. Says it is a bit different but it works fine. log on to FTP site. It should have a message at the top "To do this FTP in windows explorer, click page, then click open FTP site in windows explorer" and then continue on as you did in IE6

Clear as mud?? maybe I will switch over the holidays. but then again I want some time in the sewing room! Marilyn in sunny, no snow, Alberta

I consider it to be just one of those computer thingies that you need to keep up to date. Otherwise, things eventually start to go haywire. It's like new operating systems. You need to upgrade if you want all your new programs to work. Have to admit, though -- it seems to get more and more difficult to learn the new things. About the time I get comfortable with one thing, the new one is out. Sigh....
