OT - small magnet sets?

Does anyone know where I can buy little round magnets, the size of a small coin, that come in pairs? The pain of this request is, I know that I have magnet sets, but WHERE? My stuff has been in boxes, in Mark's house since I moved in, and I can't find a thing sometimes. Certainly not little magnets. I want to make my friend a bag out of felt, and try out needle felting.. .I have all the equipment.. but I wanted the clasp mechanism to be little magnets so that the felt isn't put under too much pressure/stress. (For what it's worth, the real weight of the bag will be taken by the denim liner, which is the top of a pair of trousers and therefore will have all the pockets for holding gadgets - good eh?)

My friend Nikki had a felt bag which she loved, but it wasn't stabilised in anyway, and although I faithfully repaired it many times for her, eventually it just disintegrated. So I'm slowly making her one which is much more sturdy, and uses felt as an attractive outer cover, not for actually supporting the items she puts inside the bag. I would really like to find some small magnets though! Help!

Jo, I have found magnets like that at the local Joann's store. I have some if you would like I can send you a few that should match up. I don't know that they are strong enough to be a purse clasp, but I think I have a magnet purse clasp around here somewhere and if I can find that I will put it in the mail to you.

I know how much JoAnn's is loathed here, but honestly, it would be nice to have a general sewing/crafting store in this country - even within a

100 miles. I could hate it 90% of the time, but still get my haberdashery needs filled the rest of the time.....

I would love your little magnets if you really don't have a use for them. The clasp would be more decorative, and just so the bag doesn't sag open to be honest. What can I send you in return?

Yours, Jo

Portable chess set and gut the pieces?

How many do you need? I have four of them (a bit smaller than a 1p) on the door of the freezer. They've been there for years and I've never done anything with them. (Also a much more powerful one the size of a 10p, but you said in pairs).

If these are any good to you, give me an address and I'll post them. I'd think they'll be powerful enough to hold a purse closed, but not a shoulder bag.

No problem, Jo. I'll put them in the mail to you tomorrow. Be patient. Sometimes mail feels like it takes forever.

Careful there, Jo. I have a purse - one that has been my companion for years - with a magnetic clasp that just pitifully snaps even when it is empty. As ever, I don't know what I'm talking about but there must be magnets of different potential. There's probably a difference in the power of a gentle refrigerator magnet and that for a serious purse closure. You will probably want a set that is meant for purse closing. Maybe not one that takes both hands and one foot to rip open. Polly

I completely understand. Most of the time I hate JoAnn's, but they are always there in a pinch. They may not have my favorite thread, etc., but I can always find something to work.

Hmm, that reminds me. I need a marking pencil. Need to get to JoAnn's sometime this week.
