Quilting is such therapy

So, after a busy week at school teaching and getting ready for a conference, attending the conference Friday and Saturday, hosting a National Officer through Sunday morning, a doctor's appointment, a staff meeting, four busy days of teaching, helping get ready for the State Student Government Association meeting at our school, having the coffee stand open Friday and Saturday, and then taking Bert to the airport, I finally have had some time to myself. If that run-on sentence doesn't typify my life at the moment I don't know what does. In the midst of all this I also lost my thumb drive, one of those bic-lighter-size storage devices, that had my entire school life on it. And no, it wasn't backed up. After panic and then resignation, I started recreating some items only to have the thing fall out of plastic wrappings I was getting ready for recycling. I almost sat down and cried with relief.

Anyways, I was back from the airport around 8:30 and by 9:00 the living room looked like a quilt studio. I had fabric and projects spread out on the couch, chairs, floor and even the dining table. I was in full swing to hit the ground running Sunday morning and that is just what I did. I even took a personal day off from school on Friday so I have had a three day weekend to really make some progress. So here is what I've accomplished so far.

The Christmas Tree skirt is quilted. The nine-patch stack-n-whack is quilted. The baby quilt (started this week and only three years late) is almost finished hand-appliqued and then will be layered and tied. The Hanakuh Star Menorah was pieced yesterday and quilted today. The queen size block of the month from 5 years ago is trimmed.

Tomorrow evening will be a marathon of preparing bindings and sewing those on. Should that get done, I will have those set aside to hand sew to the backsides in the evenings while watching Dark Shadows videos.

That should leave the rest of the week to make two 6 inch by 90 inch "bell pulls". I made a T-Shirt quilt several years ago for a friend that is a college level VolleyBall Referee. The schools at tournaments often trade pins and she has hundreds from 20 plus years of reffing. She wants something to put the pins on and this will work so that she can hang them on each side of the T-Shirt quilt. Layering to quilt them should be interesting since I will also be placing some twill tape into the layer for support to help prevent sagging from the weight of the pins.

Parent Conferences on Thursday and Friday and that will leave me Friday evening and Saturday to get things cleaned up before picking up Bert at the airport late Saturday.

Busier than I should be but it is such fun, and really relaxing, to dive in and quilt for several days straight. Promise that I will post pictures when all are done and sent off or put away for later use.

Thought that I would stop in and say hello and update you all on my week. More later.

I'm so impressed with your energy and drive. I can't wait to see the photos of all your gorgeous quilts.

And I want ot know where you got Dark Shadows videos! It's been..... ok, way too many years since I saw Barnabas Collins and the rest of the DS crew. Wow, my wasted youth.

WOW......you really are getting a lot done. I agree that quilting is therapy. It has saved my sanity the past 7+ months.

Ohmigosh, your quilting extravaganza sounds as busy as your life--but a lot more fun! I must admit to being slightly envious of all of that productiveness! ;-) Glad you found some time to quilt, Steve.

Only the young and healthy can keep up a pace like that! Don't forget to nap, too!

I love to do hand stitching of binding while I watch an old movie. And I envy you, I would dearly love to get the old Dark Shadows DVDs. Way out of my financial league, though!

Sounds like you have a full plate of quilting for the two weeks, Steve. Enjoy!!

WOW! I'm exhausted just reading about the busyness of your life! Take care of yourself.

Yes, I find quilting to be therapeutic. I got the latest edition of Blanket Statements (American Quilt Study Group) and am going to go to bed early in order to therapize by reading.

Happy quilting,

Lenore

Thank you for the reminder that quilting is therapy. I'm a teacher too. We have early releases every day this week for parents to come to conferences. I had only 1 no-show out of 29 -- and of course it had to be the 4:30 Friday conference.

Unfortunately I took on a quilt project for my school last Spring. The kids designed the pattern -- I sure bit off more than I could chew with my meager

4 years of quilt learning. I have learned the hard way that quilting is MY therapy, and I will not do another quilt project that also involves schoolwork. The quilt became another school obligation and I started to feel guilty about doing quilting for myself when the school quilt was not finished. It's still not finished. I sure had to frog a lot!! I'm learning a lot in the process.

I'm in a year-round multi-track school, so I am looking forward to having November off to get some quilting done.

Thanks again for the reminder.
