Boy, oh boy am I ever glad to have finished this one.

As you may remember, I designed myself into a corner (actually 2 corners) when I used scrap fabric and then found out that the mattress for this full-size bed was 18" thick. Seems like every solution I used caused another problem. I justify the split lower border by saying that it is an antique bed and it does have posts on the corners. But the truth being told, that 2.5" red inner border threw the clamshells off. Plus, I was tired of clamshells by that point.

So it's off to California this afternoon. Son and daughter-in-law picked out the focus fabrics, and I'm hoping they'll like what I did with them.

Not my taste, but I'm pleased.

Like all of your work, Joan, this one is lovely! I'd never guess that the clamshells were "off". :)

Joan: Very good solution for the problem. The red inner borders add a great deal to the quilt; I like how both color and line contrast to the clamshells. PAT

I can understand you are glad to be finished; but it is so worth it! I really like it - definitely up with my favourites of your work, Joan. I may be perverse, but I love the back >g< . In message , joan8904 in Bellevue Nebraska writes

It's quite lovely and the border is made just like the one I have on a commercially made bedspread so don't worry :-). GREAT job !!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

You should be very pleased. It is absoutely stunning! You are an inspiration. Now I know how I want to think about my next quilt. Just so beautiful julia

I agree with you. I thought the back fabric was absolutely stunning. Wouldn't be surprised if they use it 'back up' sometimes. I know I would. joan

Ooo. I think it is beautiful. It is *really* going to look lovely on an antique bed.

The shape of the clamshell pattern always makes me smile; they look like happy smiley faces to me. I know - but I spent my mental health money on stash and it just can be helped. I love the quilt. Polly

It is gorgeous! Well worth all that work! You came up with a fantastic solution to the border problem - it's as if that was the way you'd designed it from the very beginning. But then, ALL your work is fabulous! Go GIRL!!

How beautiful! I'm sure they will love it! I'd love to see a picture of it on the bed... I just know it will be stunning!
