some photos

I've been carrying on my usual quilter's ADD style. In the last couple days, I have pieced two small wallhangings from kits I bought on sale. I've also been playing with some pineapple blocks that seem to take a looooooong time to make. I have no idea how long I'll be able to stick with this project. I have a lot of fabric colleced for it, so I think I need to keep plugging away. I also have my block from my machine applique class with Sharon Schamber layered and ready to ruin...er,I mean, machine quilt. Notice I haven't posted any pictures of COMPLETED quilts in a while. Oh wait....I did get a baby quilt made and given away last month. So I HAVE done something!!!

What a nice variety of projects! Great idea, so you don't get burned out on any one technic. And don't worry about the pineapple blocks. You will be able to 'gently encourage them' to go together nicely. I love the colors!

Neato pics. Gonna be nice and not beg. Once a day is all I allow myself :)

ADD, huh? Why don't you try this for a coupla days and see if it helps: Set your timer for 10 min, NO LONGER, go in and sew until it rings and then LEAVE......like totally get out of that room for awhile....you'll know how long you have to be gone. Then set the timer for another 10 min and do the same. Once your brain decides it can only HAVE 10 min, hopefully, it'll settle down and sew. I don't have ADD (how did I miss out on that? since I already have Alphabetitus) but it helped when the Doc said "10 min and NO MORE". I concentrated on what *I* wanted to do and did it, got the twin size quilt done and I didn't suffer after from doing too much too soon. It was hard at first but got easier as I SAW that things were being accomplished.

PLEASE let me know if it works for you.

Love them! They're all really nice! As for your Sharon Schamber block, I have a similar one I haven't yet quilted, either -- I'm not afraid to do it; I just haven't gotten around to it. LOL!

As usual - lovely! The kits looked like a lot of fun, but I have to admit, I don't think I could do a lot of the pineapple blocks. I love the look of them (and I'm kind of surprised at how much I like the blue/green color combination!), but I don't know if I could do more than a couple. The class block is just great. Great color choices - I'd love to see a whole quilt with that one!

That's it! I have so many projects so I don't get burned out! Great answer! I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of encouraging with the pineapple blocks. I like the colors too, even though they aren't what I thought I was envisioning! I must have purchased what I liked, so that's a good thing.

I bought the Bernina leather foot that is supposed to be good for outline quilting. I thought I'd try to do some echoing with it on the Sharon Schamber block. I liked the way it turned out. I was particulary glad I used the black and white dot for the stems. It seems to add a bit of whimsey.

I don't have REAL ADD. And my apologies to anyone dealing with it personally for using the term flippantly. I just seem to skip from project to project without completing them. I do think I could use the 10 minute trick for machine quilting though. However, 10 minutes might seem like a long time. I walk away from machine quilting quite often. I haven't figured out why...I have a great table and a supposedly good chair too. But I don't think I'm totally comfortable in the chair. I've often thought I'd like to machine quilt while standing up....but I haven't really figured out the logistics of that though. And since my sewing table is pretty new....it would be best to learn to work with it!!!

Oh you've done such fun interesting stuff - the whirlpool quilt totally fascinates me .... was it very hard to do?

I think that's one of the most challenging tops I've made. There is some curved piecing that is tricky. Think about a half circle...then add two separate "corner" pieces that are very narrow at the top part. The fabric at that location basically disappears when the seams are sewn. Not a very good explanation...I don't really know how to explain it. In addition to the piecing difficulty, keeping track of the color placement was challenging too.

Kathyl, I love your quilts. I simply love every one of them. What are we going to have to do to get you to quilt them? Polly

I wish I knew! Tie me to my machine? You're the creative one....you tell me!!! All suggestions cheerfully accepted. Thanks for your kind words.

Well, let's talk about it. What's holding you back? Are you afraid your stitching won't be 'up to snuff'? It won't matter on that one with the batik ovals. I'm thinking any quilting you do is going to disappear on that beauty anyway. Not something we would recommend but you probably could quilt it with barbed wire and the gorgeous fabrics/colors/arrangement would overpower it anyway. Polly

That's the kind of pep talk I need to give myself more often. If it weren't so late, I'd go in and tackle one of my UFO's right now. I'll have to save this and re-read it when needed. "barbed wire"...snicker, snicker. I knew you'd have the right thing to say. You are priceless! I do think one of the things that holds me back is just figuring out WHAT to quilt. Even though my execution might be only so so, it's really getting past "stitch in the ditch" or outline motifs that mystifies me.

Kathyl, your projects are ALL so pretty!! Your tastes and mine are very similar, so anything you don't want to look at anymore, will blend in very nicely here.... :-)

Beautiful stuff.....

Love the pineapple blocks. Only way I would attempt something similar is with paper piecing.

I took an all day class from Virginia Walton, the designer of the "Whirlpool" pattern. Got my fabrics cut and laid out and sewed a few of the pieces together. It is sitting on my fold up design "wall" and waiting for the space/time to get it together. The design is done using the Creative Curves® rulers and technique. Essentially it is a modified drunkards path, but the curved seam goes into the two corners instead of a third of the way from the corners. One of these days I will finish mine. I promise.

I love the blue and green pineapple one, it's very "my colours" and looks lovely all put together. Lucky baby who gets it on their crib! Morag

There's a lovely little group, Kathyl. Thanks for showing us. The pineapple is going to be really lovely. How many blocks are you planning? Just keep thinking how lovely it is going to look when it's finished. When you've done a few more, and can see the green 'line' as well as the blue one, you won't want to leave it unfinished, because it will be so pretty. The fabrics are gorgeous. The Sharon Schamber piece is beautiful. Have a few try-outs, to see what kind of quilting you will do, then practise that one intensively just before starting the quilt - try not to leave any time gap (in days I mean, not minutes!), so that you have the rhythm and movement well entrenched in your mind, then you should be fine. This is not a time, I would suggest, to try something new >g< . In message , KJ writes

Does your chair have the facility to alter the angle of the seat? You might find it more comfortable to lower the front edge of the seat when you are machine quilting. It is more comfortable having the seat level for things like working on the computer, but sloping down slightly is good when you are at a table and working with your feet (well, foot). I tend to leave mine in the same position, but I know I *should* change for each use. . In message , KJ writes
