Anyone doing the Shop Hop by the Bay?

Hello all! I don't get to post much but I enjoy keeping up by reading whenever I can. I will be in the Bay area in late June (whooohooo!!!) just in time for the hop. It runs from June

20 - 24 and includes 14 shops! Has anyone done this before? If so, what advice might you have for someone from Ohio who's just visiting but has the plan to visit all of these shops? Any driving advice (other than staying off the road, LOL) ? I'm so excited; I can hardly wait!

My sisters, mom and I usually do it. We split it over two of the days as it is a pretty large area (and we do shop) Last year my sisters did it in a day and a couple of hours the second because they just ran in each shop and got their passports stamped - no browsing. When I do it I plan on collecting something. One year it was orange and blue fabrics another year it was asian prints and indigos. It's fun to have something to hunt for. Less overwhelming that way for me.

One day we go:

Always Quilting The Laurel Leaf Eddies Quilting Bee The Granary Golden State Fabrics San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles

Other day is:

Quilts and Things Homespun Harbor Back Porch Fabrics The Hand Maden Your Hometown Sewing Center Cabrillo Sewing Center Round Robin Fabrics Judy's Sewing Center

Geographically, this works really well for us. Peninsula area the first day, south of San Jose the second and they're in order as you go down the freeway.

We haven't talked about it this year. I guess I should ask but since my mom and sister stopped talking yesterday......

I haven't done this particular shop hop, but in addition to Marcella's very experienced suggestions, I thought I'd just add a tip or two. I just picked up the flyer today.

Whiffle Tree Quilts, who is listed as one of the shops, will not be in business at the time of the shop hop. I think the last day they will be open is June 16th.

Not on the shop hop schedule is Quilter's Studio in San Carlos - 1494 Laurel Street - 650-594-4885 - they are about 8 blocks away from The Laurel Leaf. I think it's a wonderful shop & if you're going to do the shop hop, you should make it one of your stops. I'm sure Marcella didn't mention it, because she didn't want to self-promote herself - she teaches there.

You might want to check the website for the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles to see what the exhibit will be at the time of the shop hop, in case it isn't something you are interested in.

San Francisco Bay - of course. You knew that Pat, didn't you? You're just pulling our legs, aren't ya?? I was born & raised in San Francisco. A job took me to Los Angeles for a couple of years. While living down there, I sometimes referred to The City - which, of course, I assumed everyone knew was San Francisco. It never occurred to me there was any other place called The City. I've learned better now!
