VERY OT: Special Olympics Fundraiser

Come Saturday -- my DH will be taking the plunge for Special Olympics! I can't believe he agreed to do it... but he did!!

The annual Polar Plunge involves crazy people raising $$$... then finding a crazy costume..... and then heading outdoors to a local lake where the ice has been broken up ... and these crazy people plunge themselves into the frigid waters!

I haven't completely met my fundraising goal... but have made a huge dent in it. For hubby's costume I found a great (or should I say "INCREDIBLE"!!) deal online .. that was a no-brainer. I do quilts... not clothing... so I was a little apprehensive about sewing a costume for him. I was very fortunate to find a great costume for a VERY reasonable price! I'll post pictures in my Webshots album next Sunday (the Plunge is Saturday!) My hubby is a senior executive/administrator at the University of Michigan -- so I was shocked when he agreed to "put himself out there" this way!! I think about 20 or 30 of his University colleagues will be there to cheer him on!!

You can "meet" my dear hubby and son here:

My son is a very active special olympian! He plays soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, track & field in the spring and softball in the summer. Our local Special Olympics division has been hurting financially -- having lost several company fundraisers (like bowl-a-thons) with the closing of several auto industry related plants closing down. That's why we decided to get involved! You are certainly welcome to help out -- but more importantly -- keep your fingers crossed that my DH "survives" the dip in the icy waters!

So come Saturday -- please send warm thoughts to Ann Arbor, Michigan! I will have a quilt in my arms waiting to wrap him up when he gets out of the water... so I guess I'm not TOTALLY OT! after all.

I can not imagine, I simply can not. It's 30° here in the Swamp so you can assure your DH that the gators will not be participating. This is probably a good time to send Warm best wishes for big success in the fund raising. Good, good for all of you. Polly

Good for him! I'm full of admiration. Reminds me of when we lived in Denmark, where members of the Viking Club would go to the shore *every* morning for a plunge in the sea. No costume at all. Roberta in D
