Warning regarding EQ6 by Electric Quilt

Consider that complaining to the company sometimes has an effect and results in a change in the product. A few years back, Intuit initiated a similar 'activation' function in their Turbo Tax income tax program. It created quite a storm. DH emailed them complaining about it, along with a zillion other customers - there were also numerous articles written in complaing of the activation feature (many felt it was also a privacy issue as it was a form of monitoring by Intuit). Intuit later backtracked, and stopped using product activation in future versions of TurboTax.

Sarah,

Oh please don't go back to lurking! How about a peace offering -- I'll share my dark chocolate M&Ms. And maybe the baklava. (Must make sure there still is some before I offer.) Yum!

There are lots of fun conversations that go on here. Don't let one thread get you down!

Hope you have a great New Year. I'm looking forward to more quilting and fun quilting conversations.

i'm all in favour of emailing if it works for change on any issue.

what then happens when they come out with EQ7 in a couple of years time? will those with EQ6 still be paying for the extra activations forever? they might not want to buy an upgrade but make do with what they already have as it suits their needs already. will EQ6 users continue after EQ7 comes out to pay for extra activations if they find they need them. i guess this will be interesting to see how they work this out. they've built in the need to go online to have EQ6 activated for the first use. can this be changed once you have the 'built in activation program' CD in your hot little hands?

sorry to ask these questions but i am not familiar with how activations are programmed into the software in the first place so i'm asking here in case someone can enlighten me on this issue. i read thru the list of what constitutes a new activation but for me that wasnt completely clear.

cheers from a lovely new years afterno> Consider that complaining to the company sometimes has an effect and

Absolute nonsense. He is expressing an opinion just as you are. Perhaps you don't like his style, perhaps he and others don't particularly like your style either. That's the way our freedom of speech works.

As far as Electric Quilt is concerned, their recent policy is hardly 'customer friendly' and I for one would prefer to give my business to Companies that value their customers higher than EQ seems to do. If that puts EQ out of business, so be it, the fault lies at the door of that Company's management not the customer.
