Anyone ready for a "Heritage Square" swap with an extended due date?

Hi all,

I'm thinking of starting up a swap with an extended due date to allow for summer plans for everyone. This one would be both educational and fun and you could get the kids involved if you have them and you'd like to :) Here's the idea (stolen, I admit, from another source):

It's an embellishment square swap for heritage (or any other) books. Basically, you'll make a 4x4" "square" (doesn't have to be exactly square, but you get the concept) that is decorated with items from a particular decade. This "square" is then used as an embellishment on your heritage or other period scrapbook pages. We'll all sign up for a decade, research it, and then include items from that decade on our square. They can be anything of interest from that decade. Grocery prices, news items, pop culture, whatever you think would be interesting. For example, when I think of the 1940's in the US, I immediately think of Uncle Sam and Rosie the Riveter. When I think of the 1950's I think Leave it To Beaver... when I think 1970's I remember avocado green and harvest gold and so on... Anyway, you can decorate this square in any way you choose only it must be acid/lignin free. You will do 10 identical squares for your decade and then send them to me and I'll swap them out and you'll receive back a set of 10,

1 for each of the 10 decades in the swap. So, the 10 decades will be as follows:

1900-1910

1910-1920 1920-1930 1930-1940 1940-1950 1950-1960 1960-1970 1970-1980 1980-1990 1990-2000

OK.... So, if anyone's interested, obviously this will be limited to

10 people unless there is a lot of interest in which case we might make 2 groups of 10. The only requirement will be that you must have been a posting member of RCS for one month. Now, here's the best part... because summer is so fast approaching and I want to make sure everyone has time to research this and work it at their leisure, I thought why not let folks have most of the summer to complete it... So, I thought I'd propose it today (Wednesday) and see if there's interest and if there is, I'll make a formal proposal on Saturday and take signups all next week. Then we'll set a deadline for the squares to be in, but it won't be until August 15, giving you almost 3 months to work on these... Anyone interested?

This sounds intriging. What kinds of things would we put on the square? Do we need to leave room for a photo on the square or would it be all embellished as a decoration for a page?

What you put on it would be totally up to you. I would think clipart, stickers, embellishments of all kinds, as long as they can be replicated on each square and are acid/lignin free. I'm doing this swap myself and am embellishing my squares (I'm in two different groups in two representing two different decades) with stickers, clipart, rolled up "register" tape with grocery prices, a "ration" booklet, a faux WWII medal and a faux mini-phonograph record of Glenn Miller... you get the idea... It is strictly a decoration, so no need to leave room for a photo. Hope you'll consider joining up!

Sounds like fun. I'd like to do 1900-1910.
