Curling ribbon on LO's

I went to a Stampin Up demo last night. We used an Offray sheer ribbon on our LO. They had us heat the ribbon with a heat gun. It sort of fused the knot and curled the ribbon. It was a really neat effect. I had never heard of doing this before. Thought I would pass it on in case it was a new idea for some of you too. I put a pic of the LO up on my Webshots under new techniques. It is the last one called Ribbon Example. I hope you can see from the pic what I am talking about. Sandy

That's beautiful Sandy! I love all your different techniques. Any chance you could tell me more about the bubbles and bleach technique? It looks perfect for a LO I want to do for a baby bath. Thanks Melissa

I am unable to access the picture as I get told I'm not the owner of the album. :( It sounds like a wonderful technique though.

Melissa, Glad you liked it. I used a solution of 50/50 bleach and bubble solution (like the kids get). Poured in a cup and blew bubbles with a straw until they came over the top of the cup so I could dip one side of the cardstock on the bubbles. I did this all around the edges of the page to get the effect I wanted. As it dried the bleach takes outthe color of the cardstock. It works best on cardstock that is smooth and not shiny. I also like to stamp with bleach on cardstock. Sandy

Thanks a bunch! It's such a neat look. We're getting a scanner in a couple weeks (finally!), so hopefully I'll be able to scan my LO and show how it works out for me.

Thanks M-C! I can see it now!!! Yeah!

Sandy, I loved looking though this album. What wonderful techniques you've used! Really neat stuff, more stuff to file away for future reference....The knot you were talking about on the ribbon, is that the center knot on the bow?

yes, the heat sort of fuses it - helps keep it tied without having to tie so tight it leaves a hard knot on the page. I love the effect of the curled ribbon. Sandy
