What new scrappy thing did you do or try on National Scrapbooking Day?

Ohh! I almost forgot...

I got to try CowChipper's Quickcut dies in both the sizzix and the sidekick. I had thought that you could use the Quickcuts dies in either, but I tried and I tried. I know I was tired, but I ultimately gave up.

I'm still a firm sizzix fan. That may change after I've tried the wishblade or the cricut. :-)

I tried for the first time...

The folded punch and liked it so much that I bought the flower one. Lynne showed me a few layouts she had done with an template that did the same thing as the punch. I will be on the look out for the templates also.

I sanded for the first time on a layout. I will have to try sanding on a photo and inking the edges. RJ did it on one her layouts. Very cool!

I used chipboard on a layout for the first time. I think that was my favorite layout I made on the trip.

Ronni taught a wonderful class on alcohol inks. She showed so many different techniques!! I like the plaid the best!

I didn't get to try to many new techniques but I did learn so many new ones from everyone at the Barn. I can't wait to try the flower mini booklet that Sandy gave us directions for and the kiss stamping technique that Ronni and Deb both mentioned. I bought some wonderful TLC kits that I am just dieing to try.

I know I am probably leaving out some but I just learned and tried so many different things. Thanks to everyone that has inspired me.

Let's see...there was so much to try...

I learned how to make the mini flower booklet that Sandy showed us. It's really cute and easy to make. She also did some page titles using metal tape and embossing the sizzix letters on it. That was really neat.

I tried the sanding papers and photos and inking the edges to make them look antiqued and weathered. That came out really cool. Thanks RJ and Amy for that idea.

I also got to use a lot of letter stamps on my layouts, those were awesome and a lot easier than I thougth they would be. Thanks Deb!

April was working on a really cute recipe book for her son. I love the way it turned out and thought it would make a great gift for friends and family. Can't wait to try that out.

THe alcohol ink demo was neat. Ronni gave me on that looked like flames. I also liked the plaid and strips. Never thought to try dry embossing on aluminum foil before.

I got some of the TLC kits and can't wait to try them out, just had too much to going to try them at the Barn.

Like Tammy said, there was sooo much going on that I want to try, hope I'm not forgetting anything...

I find that my heat gun is one of the most useful tools I have - it can be used for a lot more than heat embossing!

I'm ashamed to say I didn't do any scrapping! I entirely forgot it was NSD, even though the LSS emailed me a notice about their special free make-n-takes they were going to have in the store ! I would have loved to go play awhile!

I did do a little bit of card-making though... when I went to bed I had an anxiety attack and couldn't sleep so I got up and half-made three cards using some goodies I bought on ebay a few weeks ago. I love the textured cardstock that was in the box - the person obviously used one of those Fiskars embossing pads for it... that's something I've always wished I could have, but I've shied away from the cost. Maybe for my birthday in a few weeks.

Well, althoough we didn't make it to the Barn, Melissa and I went to a crop, and had a blast.

The project I am working on right now needs to be simple (memorial altered book), but I hope at the next one I get to play with even MORE stuff!!

So - I did get to play with our hostesses Xyron Personal Cutting System (Oh, I SOOO want one - it's very cool) and made some small shapes.

I also tried sanding (Thanks to Kenda's little examples and "snow stick" she sent me!) and inking (I am now addicted to walnut inks!)

And there is more I want to try!

I should let Melissa say what she did on her own, but I will tell you she did some really neat stuff with paint!!!

Besides the alcohol inks RJ demonstrated (the right way - to save ink), I found the great technique idea using foil tape and cardstock diecut letters (in one of Katrina's scrapbook magazines). I had done something similar with quikutz, aluminum foil and a frame at the LSS, but never thought about trying it with a title. It looks great with metalic rubons or alcohol inks. Oh geez...I don't remember what I did Saturday! I really enjoyed seeing the alcohol inks RJ shared. I'll have to try them. They looked really cool on glass! And I'm going to have to look for the foily tape Sandy showed us...enablers.

OH! Now I rember! Either Friday or Saturday..it all blends in...(LOL)...I printed on ribbon for the first time. Boy, what a challenge! It was grosgrain ribbon, and the first time around I used the wrong font and all the words (names of the kids in my kiddos classes) came out fuzzy. But I'm glad I did it because it really turned out nice. Well, the 2nd try came out nice. LOL

The new thing I tried on National Scrapbook Day was the "Xyron Create-A-Sticker - Model 150 "X" Dispenser"

Tips

• Run several small ones through side by side to save on adhesive tape.
• Pull tape through just until the item doesn't show to save on tape and then add more pieces.
• Use your finger to rub the excess adhesive off the item once placed down on your LO.

Lynne, I take a retractable pencil (with the lead pulled in...round tip) and trace the edge of the letter before pulling off the sticky top. You could probably use a thumb nail too. This keeps prevents the excess adhesive problem.

You know I did that at the barn instinctively and Shannon caught me halfway through and said I didn't need too. I had already started tracing and decided to just finish what I was doing thinking it couldn't hurt. I traced all the letters I had put through and there was still adhesive to be rubbed off. That's when Shannon told me how easy it was to get the excess off.

I love my Xyron 150 too! It sure beats glueing those small letters or small diecuts. I have used it for small pieces of ribbon, or short strips of paper.

The only thing I did differently on NSD was that I made three LO's using my new Basic Grey papers, from the page kits that I had put together at home before I came to the Barn. I have never put kits together before going to a crop so that was VERY different for me. I also liked that circle/ flower technique that Sandy showed us!

Wow! That was my first Xyron. Barb sent it to me :) I don't use it very often but it is nice for small letters and tags :)

Glad that you got to use it. Plus its not expensive at all.
