I've got a Fiskars that doesn't cut straight or make square corners. Still, I use it for quick trims that I can line up on something other than the trimmer. I also have a real dinosaur of a guillotine cutter (reject from an old photographer) that cuts perfectly but is too heavy to haul around. The best solution I've found (until I find a better trimmer) is a quilting ruler and rotary cutter -- and very careful attention.

Like you, I was sick and tired of my cockeyed cutting Fiskars trimmer. I looked all over town for a Carl cutter. I wanted one so bad, but never found it. Luckily for me EK came out w/ the cutterpede about the same time. It has a rotary blade and cuts straight, straight, straight! I can even trim a hairs width off the edge of the paper if I need to. 9" Fiskars went to my niece w/ her calendar so that she can trim pics for it. It's good enough for her. I know we all use a lot of different cutters and I'm curious to read the rest of the thread and see if anyone else has anything good to say about theirs and what brand they have.Katrina in KS
I like my 9" fiskars trimmer, but find the 12" one a pain in the butt. The blade doesn't slide down the guide very easily. I use it as little as possible.
Mine is about 7 years old and I have no such cut or bend. I think I've become one with my fiskars. It works great for me. I've replaced my blades about 3 times now. I guess we all need to find what works for us. I've heard so much about the cutterpede (sp?) that I'll have to give it a try.

My primary trimmer is an old fiberglass base guillotine trimmer I brought back with me fro Germany in '92. I have had to 'fixate' the pin in the handle as the hole has wollered out, but it cuts STRAIGHT and you can shave the edge of a piece of paper with it.
I got a CM trimmer from that CM rep when I started 3 yers ago and I think I kept that thing maybe two months. I abhored it!! I bought a Fiskars 9' and after second time I literally trew it out the door. I bought a Cutterpede back in January and it seems to be ok at the moment.
I want a new guillotine one, A Carl Zeiss one. We have a Exacto one at the office, but that thing is DANGEROUS! It cuts straight but you had better watch what yo are doing!!
(treasuring my paper for nothing but the BEST - long term storage that is!)
