I'm having trouble working with eyelets. I have an eyelet setter with 3 different size adapters. It doesn't matter which adapter I use, the back of the eyelet splits. Sometimes it shows on the front side too. I've tried several soft pounds with the hammer.....one BIG pound (that split the eyelet for sure!)
What am I doing wrong? Is it supposed to split? Is there a trick? Is it all in the wrist?

what do you mean my SPLITS? cuz most of them break in the back and then fold over... very few roll all nice and pretty.. mine NEVER look evenly split and pretty like they show in the mags.. what surface are you hammering on? if the back s are being pushed back thru the front.. maybe your surface is too soft?? im by far not a expert... but ive found a little eyelet mat.. and its the right sqwishie and hard.. and I use a tiny hammer and just tap tap tap TAP.. and that seems to be my flow.. Some eyelets split on the backside and some don't. I have found that the copper ones I have usually don't split, the silver ones don't but my white ones do. I think it really depends upon the brand. I use Stampin' Up ones and I also have some I have ordered from Creative Memories. The Stampin' up ones I have seem to split less.

Some tools are made to split the eyelet. Do you have 3 of these? Connie K

I like it hard, but if you're splitting, it's just may too hard. You should consider one of the many good personal lubricants, like vagisil. HTH HAND
