Organization

Well, since I've not had the oppurnity to scrap I've been organizing. Yes M-C, I am still organizing! LOL I took some time to think about just how I scrap. I scrap by color not "pattern". So I have all my paper sorted. I put all the card stock and patterned paper together. I also sorted all my scraps and they are in the the plastic "project" bags with the appropriate colors. My next big project will be to sort my embellishments and ribbon. BUT that will be a good while yet. I feel so much better about my paper. I did keep some "themes" together, such as holidays together. They are stored seperately. I have my pictures semi-sorted and now I'll work on putting page kits together. I think this will work out much better. It also seems to take up less room. go figure! Perhaps this will speed up the scrapping progress.

Sounds like you have a good system going Kenda. I need to organize my paper. My cardstock especially is a mess. Good luck with the rest of your organizing.

How is Melissa (did I get the name right) doing?

I know what you mean Kenda. One would think we'd all be organized by now. I was just organizing over the weekend. It being October and 80% of my Halloween stamps were missing in action. Good thing I had ordered another new set in September. I found the missing ones Sunday. I had... I guess unmounted them last year. Put them on EZMount foam and put the cover back over them and stuck the sheet back in with the unused EZMount sheets. Geeze what was I thinking. So, Sunday I clipped the whole page out and put them in the binder, so I could find them. hahaha

Kenda, we sound very similar in how we organize. I don't scrap by theme or pattern much either so most of my patterned paper is organized by color. The only theme categories I have are the four seasons, Christmas, Halloween, sports and that's about it. I buy a lot of collection packs like Basic Grey, Cosmo Cricket, and Stampin Up paper sets. These are all kept in wire racks (each collection pack has it's own rack) and my solid color paper packs are in another wire rack. A friend explained her method and it makes sense. The solid colors are easy enough to find in the Cropper Hopper vertical storage (full sheets together by color, then scraps organized by color in a separate CH vert. paper holder just for scraps) but the patterns are harder. So we organize by collection pack. Like I mentioned, single sheets go in an accordion style organizer by color or the few categories I mentioned. If I have coordinating items (stickers, die cuts, etc.) then they get clipped to those papers and put in the accordian folder.

My embellishments are all in the Making Memories embellishment chests (two of them) organized by type (brad, eyelet, charm, snap, button, clip, etc.) My loose ribbons/fibers are all in jars according to color. It makes them a bit harder to find but they look sooooo pretty on the shelf. Ribbon on spools have a special ribbon case I bought at Michaels.

All of my tools are in the AMM tote on a lazy susan turntable (by Rubbermaid, found at Wal-Mart, you use just the bottom of it) so I can just spin it around. It's *loaded* with tools, pens, adhesives, etc.

I keep all colorants (paints, chalks, inks, etc.) in an ArtBin handled case.

All of my stamps and stamping accessories are in a three drawer plastic thing for now, but I'd really like to get them up on a shelf for easier access.

Organizing is half the fun! Keep up the good work.

Hi,

I actually did something similar over the weekend, I had bought a paper organizer (that hold paper vertically) but never really put the papers in according to any theme or anything! So I sorted them according to seasons and christmas and stuff! During the process I realized I had a ton of plain papers so I put them in a clear file, each color in a different bag!

So next time, before I buy any papers, I'll be checking the folder to see if I already have any!!!

Still, there is so much more to organize!!!

Cathy, I think I can go no buy for for at least a year! With the exception of adhesives and albums. I have taken a good long look at what I have and I may be doing that. I really need to reduce the amount of stuff I have! Oh I think I may have a fever.... LOL

Melissa is doing pretty good. Thank you so much for asking. The driving is still...well let me put it this way. The passanger seat is the scariest place I've ever been! LOL But she'll get there. I told DS that she needs a driving school. He said he'd put her in one after he's done with school.

LOL At least you found them Lynne! I don't think I'm going to get Halloween cards sent out this year! Ooops, but I had very good intentions. Just have to work on Christmas.

I did get around to organizing my embellishements. OH MY! Another reason for me to go on a "no buy" plan! I again, organized by color. I did put the brads and eyelets together. But I sorted and got rid of a few things and was able to reduce the amount of space these things took up so that helped. I think my biggest problem is the space issue. I think I need a house all to myself! LOL Is that too selfish?

I plan to shop out of my stash before I go shopping for a long time. I am going to stock up on adhesive and a few albums, refill pages ect. and after the first of the year I am going "no buy" for my scrapping things. Don't worry Deb! I'll be purchasing ink and what have you for stamping!

You know, I had a recent experience where I HAD to scrap from my stash and it was very rewarding. I went to a smaller weekend crop in September and the poor girl running it had her main vendor pull a no-show! There was a CTMH vendor there but she mostly had kits and no single sheet cardstock or other papers. Now, normally I would have panicked but I had brought *everything* with me and boy, was I glad. It actually became a challenge at our table to see who could do the most creative self-stash shopping. It was a very rewarding experience.

I think that's a great idea. I've already outgrown my little space and I've only be in it for 3 months! Alright who am I kidding it wasn't big enough to begin with.

Well, I am going to do this not out of a cash flow problem but the where to put everything problem! I know I can do it as I have enough paper and embellishments, along with the cool tools I have. If I need an embellishement I can make it with the Cricut April sent me. (I've been using it alot lately) So I plan on making that a challange for me. I am also going to have all my digital photos printed up the first of the year that aren't printed yet and make page kits. Of course using my own store. I think it'll be fun! Plus I'll get so much done!! I have found it's alot easier for me to get pages done using to page kits that I've made up.

Hi Kenda,

I think that's a great challenge. I did that in 2006. Really tried to use what I had or make something with what I had and it was liberating. Even now I'll work hard trying to get everything from home. Making things match that I'd not normally think of before heading out to the store. I really buy mostly colored card stock that I'm missing colors of when I go out. It's nice to save gas and money using the supplies we already have.

I know what you all mean!! I was just thinking about this topic the other day when I was trying to make out my Secret Santa list. I was having a hard time thinking of things that I wanted or needed, because I have been sort of stocking up on supplies in hopes to really get scrapping now that football is over! Like you Kenda, other than things like albums, pages, and adhesives, I dont really 'need' anything, and I could do a lot with what I already have! Don't get me wrong tho..there are things that I still oooh and aaah over in the Scrapper's Dreamland of online shopping (EBAY!!)....LOL

Did you have a difficult time using what you had Lynne? I am thinking that allot of mine might go by the wayside to a charitable org. I am going to really think about my "style" (ha as if I have one! LOL) and then by this time next year reassess some of my stuff. But I am definitely going to go no buy in 2008.

The more I used what I had the more it became instinct to do so. Even now I was making a Thanksgiving card and I needed avocado colored ribbon and of course have every color BUT that color green. So, I thought on it for the afternoon and while at the grocery store it came to me... RAFIA! I have bunch. I tied it on to the card and I think I actually like it better. I like too that I didn't buy any ribbon. I'll post a picture of the card today.
