Thank you Trish! Since we had to finish paying the attonery no family gift this year.....though the adoption is a wonderful gift. Boys said they'd rather the adoption go through than get a new dishwasher.....heehee, I have 'em for another year then!

That is wonderful news for your family! I have had a somewhat similar situation with me and my sister. My mom got remarried when I was 1. My sister was 7. So I don't remember my real dad. My real father never called. My mom said he called a couple of times at first but it stopped. He never asked to see us. He got remarried. The thing is he only lived about 20 miles away. I didn't care that I never talked to him. Growing up I sometimes just wonder what he looked like. But that was all.

Growing up my sister and I had my stepfathers name. I never really understood much about it. Until I got older. I didn't know that my stepfather never adopted us. I didn't matter to me or my sister. Well, it did, but my mom and dad (my stepfather) never had the money. So I just used his name. Because that was my name the only name I had ever known. I did worry about it not being legal until I was turning 16 and getting my drivers license. I was scared I would have to put my birth name on the drivers license. When I asked, they told me I could use what ever name I wanted as long as I was not doing it for illegal purposes. So to me my stepfather is my real dad. I've never had another father. He's mine.

Well, he passed away almost 3 years ago with kidney problems. I had wanted to try and give him a kidney, but he would never even let us see if we was a good candidate. It's been hard. But I know he's not hurting anymore. It's weird how you think as time goes on that it won't be so hard, but it doesn't. I find myself watching TV and start crying. Or you hear a song and I can hear my dad singing it. Like right now with Christmas I'm getting teary just writing this.

So, I guess my thing is that I would suggest if your boys want to use your husbands name what's a month. Let them start the school year out with a new name. Good luck and I will be thinking of you and your family.

Hugs.

I agree with you, however the in order for the school documents to be correct we have to provide the re-issued birth certificates to change their last names. That will take around 4-6 weeks after teh papers are filed.

That's true. I'm 31 so that was a long, long, long time ago when I was in school. I forgot the like to see a birth ctf now. I don't think they did back then.
