Thanks, and more difficult news about Tyler

I have taken a long time planning how I would write this post. I have gone over it and fixed it and changed it and changed it back again.

First of all, I need to thank all of you for your prayers and good wishes. I have only been able to access the newsgroup once a day, needing to keep the phoneline open. Your letters buoyed me up when I was down the lowest. And I need to thank my DDDDDDBrother who has fixed me up so I can read the group AND post on a regular basis now.

I don't know how to tell you what is going on with Tyler, without sounding bitter, hurt and angry. Because I am bitter, hurt and angry.

The first two days, we had marines calling us every hour, practically. On the third day, they began totally ignoring us. If we would call them for information, they would promise to find out and call us back, and never did. They had told Ty several times the first few days, how he would be flown to the US, see us, and maybe get 30 or 14 days of convalescent leave. After the third day, they told him his right lung was too bad for him to fly, because of the change in air pressure. They kept telling him that, again and again. When he developed a fever, the second week, they told him that was normal. On Thursday, he raised his arm and ruptured an abscess that they didn't even know he had. Yesterday morning, they came in his room and told him that he is able to fly and is being sent back to duty in Afghanistan. He has three open wounds in his chest, filled with packing, yet he is going to a place that still has diseases we haven't seen for 50 years. He can barely walk up and down the hospital hallway without running out of breath, in Germany, near sea level. They are sending him to over 4000 feet.

I am keeping my mouth shut to the Marines, because Tyler has asked me to. In his words, "Don't make waves, Mom, the ripples will kill me." But I can vent, here. And I am.

Please continue to keep Tyler in your prayers, and pray for patience for me. I need patience, and I need it RIGHT NOW!!

We have over 3 months left of overseas duty, and 6 months altogether. I am hoping he makes it that long.

Oh dear Connie - I don't know what to say but to tell you how my heart hurts for you. I will pray for patience, and for Tyler's health - but I have to admit that would be somewhat hypocritical on my part. I WOULDN'T be patient and I wouldn't be very faithful if I were in your shoes and it were my son. You have my admiration for your strength, faith and perseverance!

I will hold you and Tyler in my heart and in my prayers and know my tears this evening are for his mom.

Big Hugs, Tina

Connie, Holy Cow I can't believe this post! I will pray for his protection while abroad, patience for you, and a safe and happy return to home turf. Blessings coming your way. (And a thump on the collective heads of those making this heinous decision).

Connie-

You are right to be angry. It's time to contact your congressmen and

-women and do some serious wave making. This is NOT right and there needs to be some intervention and quickly.

Praying some official- with a brain- can get involved with this, fix it and do it right now!

Howdy! You have the names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addies of your U.S. congressmen; get on the phone now and see how fast things change, in your favor. The Marines do NOT like to hear from U.S. Congress members. Ask me privately and I'll tell you how I know.

Best wishes, hugs, prayers, and right there with you on the hurt, angry, bitter, and just damned pissed at this.

I would hope the powers that be will see that there is no way that poor young man can handle going back to active duty. How naive and just plain dumb can these people be??!!! Prayers for you and him. My heart goes out to you, just having lost my son, I know your situation certainly is unsettling to say the least. Marlys in Indiana

Saying prayers for Tyler to be safe and to have a complete recovery. If he has open wounds like he does and only has 6 months left could he possible apply for a medicial discharge? Of course I know nothing about it but know there is such a thing. Hope you keep your patience. I would NOT be patient, that I do know. Michele in Ohio

The blind stupidity of military minds is staggering sometimes - ask me how I know.

Have you considered leaking the situation to the press as well as dropping it on your "friendly" politicians. I imagine at least some of the current affairs programs over there would have a field day, and you could ask not to be named as the source of the information. Just refuse all interviews and make no public comment, then it's not your fault - or Tyler's - when the s### hits the fan. Stir up the press to ask the politicians why wounded are being sent back - are they so short of serving personnel? Are there any others in the same situation? Can you represent as a group on their behalf? Don't you have a League or organisation that represents the welfare of serving members? Don't the Marines have Chaplains? Where's his CO? OOOhhhh!! I gotta stop - I'm so angry about this!

Mean time my thoughts and best wishes are with Tyler.

Big hug for you ((((((HUG)))))) from Oz

Oh good grief - that can't be right surely... someone "in charge" just hasn't got all the facts - no way should Tyler be considered well enough to go back on active duty so soon.

Go kick some heads - but I hear what he is saying, that he doesn't want to get caught in the middle (being bullied personally is something I can certainly relate to from waay back)...

This is outrageous! As others have suggested, get in touch with your Congress persons, the media and anybody else you can think of. There isn't any thinking going on around this decision and somebody needs to point that out to the Marines! I appreciate Tyler's concern that he may suffer from the intervention, but somebody needs to do it.

Meanwhile, I admire your strength and I am hoping for the right outcome for Tyler and for you. Hugs!!

Connie, get more facts. This just can't be right. How soon are they sending him? What kind of duty is he going into? Active duty could mean light duty so a more able bodied Marine can get out in the field. Going back could mean going back a month from now instead of coming home at all. Please get more facts. And here's lots of {{{{{hugs}}}}} in the mean time. What you've heard doesn't add up. DH is a veteran, and he said they don't do that. It would endanger the other Marines to send someone who is not able. See if you can find out more, dear.

They can make it very hard on a very sick young marine. That's what they can do. If he wasn't already so sick I would say lets flood our congressman with emails about putting a very brave young man in harms way when he is not physically well enough to perform as a warrior. But we have a president who refuses to even meet and have a few kind words with the mother of a dead servicemen so I seriously doubt that it would do much good. Unfortunately, our president kind of set the tone for how government deals with mothers. I think emails to the newspapers and big news tv stations like cnn and msn, etc could have more of an impact. These are easy to access - just go to their websites and there is a link where you can contact them. There is a large enough group here that we might could get some notice for sweet Tyler. One last few words for thought. If they are doing this to Tyler - how many other young servicemen are being put back into duty when they shouldn't? You can bet if they are doing this to Tyler they are doing it to many many more.

If they are saying he is fit for duty in afghanistan - I seriously doubt that they would grant a medical discharge.
