OT: Lost my Mother today

I'm sitting here at the computer still in a daze. My Mom has been at the nursing home for the past two weeks for physical therapy because of a mild stroke. I was down there Sunday, but didn't go yesterday as I had to get ready for the program I was doing at school this morning. They called me this afternoon and said to get there right away that she went out and they were tring to revive her and had called 911. I'm only a few blocks away, but she was gone before I got there. They said she had been in great spirits all morning and had even helped lead songs and talk to the other residents during the tornado warning while they were out in the hallway for safety. She told one of the nurses this afternoon she must have been more upset about the weather than she thought because she felt like she was having an anxiety attack.She also said she couldn't wait for me to come by tonight to let her know how the program went. Then she just closed her eyes and was gone. They think it was a heart attack. I just a little while ago was able to reach the last sibling. My oldest sister is here, and was with me today, but I had to call the others - those were the hardest 7 phonecalls I think I've ever had to make. I think I just need to go to bed now. Sandy

Oh Sandy, I am so sorry. I can't imagine the kind of shock you are in, though it's a blessing she didn't suffer. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

It will be 5 years on the 25th since I lost my mom. She'd been in poor health for several years so it wasn't unexpected. I can only imagine the depth of your shock & grief at her sudden, unexpected passing. May you find some comfort in knowing that it seemed to happen quickly & with minimal discomfort for her. My sympathies also in having to call your siblings. Being an "only" that's one thing I didn't have to do.

Oh Sandy, I am so sorry for your loss. It is such a hard thing to lose your Mother. I still mourn mine and it has been six years. I am sending prayers for you and your dear family that you will be able to remember only the wonderful things about her and keep her memory alive. You are in my thoughts.

:*( I am so sorry for your loss Sandy! (((((BIG HUGS)))) and a kleenex or two! I got all choked up reading your post. Its only been three years since I lost my Mother, and sometimes it seems like just yesterday...One can never be ready for this kind of loss. Those phone calls you had to made are the hardest. I am the eldest, and I was the one who had to make most of the calls to my family..very difficult. You had her for so many years, and I am glad she was happy and didn't suffer. She is in a better place and still singing! My thoughts are with you and your siblings during this difficult time. Hang on to each other for support!

Oh hon, I"m so sorry. Take some time for yourself, it's the only thing that helps... time and crying I've found. If you were here, I'd just give you a great big soft long hug. So sorry hon.
