Re: Dead Like Me

I haven't watched Dead Like Me because I am pouting over Six Feet Under going off until next year. I miss it so badly, I can't stand it. Talk about a t.v. aholic. Sheeesh. I have photo albums all over. For me, scrapping is something else. It's like a journal, with pictures and embellishments. I am taking pictures out of their photo albums and putting them into scrapbooks, with memories of the picture, and whatever I can add to make it my own. I think scrapping is an art. Or a craft. Something like that. star2fire

I was wondering if anyone out there have been watching my new favorite show, > "Dead Like Me"? It's a new series on Showtime, and if you like dark humor, > you will enjoy it. I watch Dead Like Me. I love it. I never used to like dark humor....but slowly over the years my husband has tainted me...LOL.

To me scrapbooks are the NEW picture albums. They replace them. Everyone is realising what those albums do to our pictures. My family has always written little anecdotes and sayings under the pictures in our albums....so scrapbooking is just the next step. Putting the pictures on the page along with the memories is the main goal. I want people to notice the pictures....not so much all the other goodies.

Well, for me, picture albums are just lots of photos with maybe just the person's name if you're lucky. Scrapbooks are the pictures and the stories about my life and my family's life that will tell future generations about us.

Of course, the creative part is fun too.

I only watched it once, and although I like dark humor (I'm grudgingly hooked on 6 feet under), I felt misplaced in that show. Maybe because I was trying to start in the third show instead of the first. Dh and I just kept looking at each other, but vowed to try it again!

Scrapbooks should be not only an expression of creativity, but a story for future generations (and current ones for that matter). I only hope that's what I'm doing! My dad and his wife are huge picture-takers, and they have a gazillion albums, but when they're gone, those pictures won't really mean much without the stories behind them.

Nope, that's what mine are too. I get so many photos on some pages that there is little room for embellishment. I try to make it a reflection of my creativity, but mostly to capture the moment in journaling and photos.

My future ancestors won't really care much if I use a Jolee's boutique sticker or Mrs. Grossman's, but hopefully they'll appreciate seeing my handwriting and reading my thoughts. How else would they know who I "was"?

I've never heard of that show, but I have my "guilty pleasures", too. I confess--I watch Big Brother. There, now its out.

I think of scrapbooking as a legacy to my children. I don't have money or great treasures of jewelry or even dishes to pass down, but I can pass down my memories to them. I feel that someone should be able to look through my albums and know what our lives were like these years. I don't necessarily include the prices of gasoline and new houses and loaves of bread, but I include trips to the science museum, pictures of our school days, field trips, fun times just playing with the camera, things like that. If you were to look through our albums you might feel like you knew us and what our days were like. I think this comes from being so far from any family, but having my own family's future to look forward to. I don't know, sorry if I do it wrong, but I love it, and I hope my children and grandchildren love what I did for them. :)

Terry Bradshaw is a house hold name around here. My family is originally from Pittsburgh, and that is who he played for. I have always been fond of him.
