My Button Posts

I am writing to apologise for my actions for a) crossposting. b) advertising in the incorrect area's. c) upsetting the good people who use these newsgroups for their intended purpose.

I am pretty well conversed with the newsgroups and can only again apologise for my actions. As with most other people who do this, I just assumed I was helping people who would need the items.

I know it offends some people and I can understand this. Please take this mail not as an excuse from me but as it is intended, an apology.

Sorry

Well sorry guys I am not offended by his advert, I didn't know it was a no advert group as others have posted even if under the heading advert! so read and ignore just like you would with your junk email I for one was glad i saw the advert as school are always looking for buttons and bits for craft. just my view, sorry if it offends you but we all have our free opinions

One's opinion don't have anything to do with it. This is Usenet (which all of the newsgroups are a part of) and is governed by rules and guidelines. The groups are hosted by many servers and so guidelines are all over the web. One just needs to look.

Some newsgroups are >Well sorry guys I am not offended by his advert, I didn't know it was a = no

And I am sure that someone would appreciate knowing that they are alienating *many* regular participants of this group by posting here, so that they would post their ads where they would be more welcome and generate more response.

The newsgroup rec.crafts.textiles.marketplace was created specifically for ads of this type. There's no reason to post them to any of the discussion groups.

As a recent newcomer to this group, I am confused as to what constitutes an "advert". I have noticed a constant posting by an Edna von Borstel does not upset anyone. Or is it that the word "freebie" in the subject line makes it okay??!!

Chris.

Her posts sound to me more like press releases than advertising, and she

*is* offering something free in them. To me that's not quite the same thing. (Please nobody tell me now that *this* is also against Usenet protocol and note carefully that I am onlyi expressing my own personal opinion.)

To be honest looking in the history there isn't that many posts viewable that have a great deal to do with the topic, apart from an Advert off Elizabeth, Advert Janome, curtain tape, the Upsetting Button topic, a couple of Edna's (superb as ever) then its the usual junk, *many* regular participants I am sure as with most other newsgroups don't expect it to be a clicky group but an expanding and friendly group, that people would feel happy to browse and comment when they felt fit. Although I don't post often as I feel there are many more in the newsgroups that can give better technical advise than I, I have learnt a great deal from just browsing. If a simple (clean) advert is alienating regulars then they must have a fine time coping with the rougher side of the posts.

I wouldn't worry I read the charter before I advertised my sewing machine, thats why I put ADVERT in so no one had to read it. Edna von Borstel advertises her designs on many groups and is in business selling designs. Liz

You couldn't possibly have read the charter for RCTS, which *CLEARLY* states that absolutely NO advertising is allowed and should instead be directed to the marketplace newsgroup.

Offering something for free is sorta borderline, I think. And she offers free designs.
