Newbie question

A basic pattern with no seam allowances, and with straight-sided darts extending to the high point of the part being shaped. Often made of oaktag or other light cardboard, with the darts cut out for easy tracing.

Loosely, any pattern used only or primarily for designing patterns.

It's a pattern made to see where your fitting issues are, really...

I only skimmed these articles, but I don't think either mentioned that if you make a bust dart bigger, you will almost certainly have to lower it. But it's easy to see whether this is necessary, and easy to see how to do it.

I don't recall seeing people in RTW with the darts two inches above the breast lately; maybe designers have caught on. On the other hand, I don't recall seeing *darts* lately! Shirts way too tight around the hips, so that they ride up in wrinkles, are almost standard -- no matter how slender the RTW wearer is.

(RTW: Ready To Wear. Also known as "off the rack".)

IMO, too-tight articles of clothing are unflattering, and obviously they're uncomfortable. It used to be considered cheap and tacky to dress that way. I know it's a sign of advancing age to resist change, but I really deplore this trend.

Is "spray-on" clothing next? Seems like we're getting very close to that. I've been seeing a lot of very tight tops and bottoms, with an expanse of midriff showing - sometimes quite a large expanse. Spandex used to be for swimsuits, now it's showing up in everything!

And it is showing up primarily on bodies that are clearly not made for spandex (or lycra).

What about this (growing) trend to wear very low-rise, hip hugger jeans with spandex mini (crop) tops out in public when one is VERY pregnant? I know that pregnancy is a completely natural state, but many other things are also completely natural and certainly do not need to be displayed in public.

What next, sanitary napkins with exposed ends sticking out of these very low rise jeans? (After all, menstration is also "natural")

In a word, YUCK.
