OT: back home

My son & I arrived home earlier this afternoon from our trip to Wisconsin Dells to pick up the items he wanted from his aunt's home. About 2700 miles round trip and we only saw rain Thursday driving through Iowa on the return trip. But then, on the drive up, we went through Arkansas, IL, into WI to avoid all the storms in no TX and OK. Returning, we cut across WI, to LaCrosse where DS found the "perfect" guitar amp, through a corner of MN and straight down to Dallas and home.

He found his aunt's Kenmore sewing machine in a beautiful cabinet, probably a 1950 or so, and says now he no longer has to borrow one of mine, he has his own. LOL However, we discovered she had donated her DM's turn-of-the-century Singer machine sometime ago, to an orphanage, that she often helped.

I had wanted to get over to Nancy Zieman's sewing store/warehouse in Beaver Dam, WI while there, but there simply wasn't enough time to make a 100+ mile round trip and have the proper time I would need to shop. I have been a well-satisfied mail-order customer for over 20 years, so that will continue.

We've been gone for 9 days, so I hope everybody has been good and sewing a lot during the time. I have over 200 messages on this group alone to read, so I need to start. Monday, I will have to decide where to put all the furniture that will arrive in a few days before I can start sewing again. I got so many inspirations for outfits for both DGD and me from observing clothing other people I saw during the trip. I am happy to be home. Emily

Dear Emily, Glad your back. Your trip sounds like it was really nice. Aren't you lucky DS not has his own machine!! Take a few days to rest up, long trips can be so tiring. Just ask Beverly. . Juno

Things sort of piled up on me yesterday, I went grocery shopping in the afternoon, came home and put things away, sat down in my comfy chair "for just a minute" and awakened at 9:00.....PM. ;-} So I guess I'm still getting my internal clock re-set. Or something.

I find it's always worse when traveling from one time zone to another, but since we were in the same zone, it wasn't as bad. It was sooo good to sleep in my own bed, though. Both of us rested most of today, and DS cooked supper. After eating out for 9 days, it was good to have a home-cooked meal, especially prepared by an excellent cook. Tomorrow will definitely be laundry day for me; DS will do the grocery shopping. Yes, he knows how to sew well, not that he's planning to make outfits for work. I think he wants to make himself some shorts and I imagine he'll do something for the niece in SC. Emily

THANKS, Beverly. It was very sad and there were tears as we went through the many papers, etc. I could not allow DS to go alone, I felt he needed someone with him, he was so close to his aunt. Emily

We traveled through all three US time Zones going and coming home. We boarded the plane in Atlanta at 4:00pm, and set our watches back to Pacific time, so it was "really" 1:00. Then the flight was delayed while on the taxi-way, and actual flying time was over 5 hours, so we were all pretty zonked for the first couple of days.

That is always the thing I most appreciate about getting home after an extended trip. Hotel beds just are never as comfortable as my own. And the PILLOWS! They are either too firm, too soft, too thick, too thin, or there is not enough of them. :-| Yeah, just call me grayielocks....

I kinda find eating out one of the great pleasures of traveling. I try new things, and I don't have to clean up after.

I had three loads to do, but only because I sort: light; dark and red.

Very cool, I think it's great we have several fellows on this group who actually do sew, and sew very well.

I'm so sorry, I should not have been flippant, I forgot the sad nature of your trip. Please accept my apology and sympathy.

Welcome home Emily! We got home on Thursday and traveled approx. the same route. We went from Wisconsin (near Waupaca) through Illinois, Missouri (stopped to go up in the arch), Arkansas and then Texas. We saw alot of fields, how about you? After 4 weeks in the RV I was thrilled to get home to my own bed. I did 6 loads of laundry the first day and 3-4 the second day (we had to wash all the linens). Now I am up to my eyebrows in tlf. calls to make, new items to put away (that we found on our journey) and other small chores that-put together- equal alot of work. I will have to wait awhile to start sewing.

As much as I want one, we haven't invested in an RV; but we're looking now. When we got home Saturday, DS and I decided to make Sunday a day of absolute nothing but rest. He had to go to work yesterday and I did laundry almost all day, and am back at it today. It's amazing how many clothes 2 people can dirty in 9-days. On the good side, last night, I began looking at DSIL's sewing boxes we brought in the truck. So many neat items! A Necchi book of sewing instruction, she didn't own a Necchi machine; she probably purchased the book because of all the hints in sewing and so many ideas for decorating clothes. The Kenmore machine she had is coming with the other furniture, but I did read the manual and looked at all the attachments. One can be fastened on the throat to sew absolute straight seams. I don't think I've seen that type. Emily
