OT: on aging (2025 Update)

When I read this email this morning I found myself smiling and nodding = my head. I'm passing this since all of that written has at one time or = another, in one form or another popped up in these = groups..........enjoy.

Maya Angelou's poem on age =20



In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah...on her 70+ birthday. = Maya really is a marvel who has led quite an interesting and exciting = life. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older. And, there = on television, she said it was "exciting." Regarding body changes, she = said there were many occurring everyday...like her breasts. They seem = to be in a race to see which will reach her waist, first. The = audience laughed so hard they cried. She is such a simple and honest = woman...with so much wisdom in her words.. Because of that, I share = this.... =20

Some news servers will pass formatted text along; some will pass it along as standard text (hence what Loren saw) and others will omit formatted posts entirely.

So, if you want to ensure that your post comes through, and comes through clearly, post in plain text only. Loren was doing you a favor by letting you know that, for a lot of readers, the end result may not have been what you had in mind.

I have all of my mail (personal email and newsreader) set to plain text, as I said, I called several people and none of them saw the mime coding.

Because some newsreaders translate mime, sensible newsreaders don't. (It's *not* a good idea to enable your machine to execute unknown codes from strangers.) (Besides which, despite the "=20" at the end of every line and whatnot, it's easier to read a mime post in the font *I've* chosen than in the font some perfect stranger has chosen.)

Usenet is an ASCII medium. If you want your posts to be read, post them in ASCII.

I am worried by your post! It appears that you sent it to the group on

20/9/03! We're not there yet! Premature ageing here! All the other posts are dated 18/9/03 as usual, plus the date on my computer is OK. I know that I am studying physics here and am wondering if I have found a way to communicate with the future................

I DO have the HTML turned off on my email and newsreader. Apparently the problem is that I copy/pasted from an email I received that came into my email that was 'rich text formatted. I didn't realize that if I just pasted that email to the outgoing NG post it would kick in the HTML stuff........lesson learned, nuff said.

Hi Valkerie: Interesting bits from Ms Angelou. Thanks. But while we are on the subject of aging, may I request you turn off the HTML or what ever it is that causes your posts to have teeny tiny lettering. Very difficult for aging eyes ... especially if we like to reserve extra effort for stitching! Thanks. PAT in VA/USA
