Treadle belt for old machine?

Jul 18, 2007 1 Replies

Hi, my name is jodi and i have recently moved to berlin and just yesterday scored myself a beautiful old singer treadle machine!

Unfortunately the old leather belt is broken and I need to find a way to substitute it. Stockings didn't work I am afraid as it slips.

I don't speak deutsch yet so hunting down a leather man who can make a new one would take me a month or more to locate and communicate with .. and frankly i am ready to sew sew sew ...

so .. any suggestions would be welcome

thanks jodi

Hi Jodi

I know that they are still available in Australia. Singer treadle machines are still used in many of the Pacific islands where electricity isn't available and last time I was in one of the Singer service centres here a couple of years ago, I noticed that they sold leather belts.

This company has customers round the world including the Pacific and I have found them a reliable mail order provider for Singer needles for an old singer I have that doesn't use standard needles:

might be worth sending them an e-mail to ask about cost and availability (and at least they use English :-)). Fran
