COC - Crusty old Coot or variations thereof indicating someone who feels they're entitled to a bit of impatience, given their experience level.

Lots of net terms on

Sorry - couldn't resist. :-)

DAGS == Do a Google Search. Google is the most important tool you need to master on the Internet.

I just did a google search, using the terms OT HTH OTOH NG COC FS

and the second hit was Internet and RCTQ Abbreviations

Tom already answered your questions, except for COC. The URL above says COC is "Cream On Cream" - a fabric print. (RCTQ is a quilting newsgroup). Don't think that's what you are looking for.

So I DAGS for "COC abbreviation" in this newsgroup, and found this:

HTH HAND

I don't know what they mean and English is my native language.

Its not just here. I visited the eye doctor. The girl rattled off a bunch of jargon. She was able to repeat it in English when I asked her to.

Years ago I always carried a Sears pocket knife. I liked them because of the warrantee. Free replacement when I broke a blade. I would get new ones several times a year. The packaging always made a point of A.C.A. blade. I believe it was also written on the blade as well. I always wondered what it meant especially since it appeared to matter a lot to Sears. One day I asked the clerk as I was getting a new one. "Amazing Cutting Action". I laughed. There is a lot of gooblegook out there. I skip the posts that rely on it. Usually there are plenty of others to read.

OT = Old Timer FS = Fail Safe ABPW = Ale Beer Port Whiskey NG = No Good COC = Cake Or Cookies? OTOH = Over To Our Host ETC = Excessive Toe Cheese (not sure how that one got in there)

You forgot my favorite

DAMHIKT Don't Ask Me How I Know This

Usually found at the end of a description of what NOT to do - and why.

Personal experience may be the best teacher - but sometimes the tuition fees are very very high.

Now when's someone going to ask about The Cabal?

IIRC it's in FAQ. OTOH, IMHO :( is a COC's response to :), , & TIC on RCW. Damhikt !

Now back to things we all understand: M2HSS, ASP2030, DVR, VS, MT2, and the all time winner....>LDD

Acronyms and abbreviations are used to make insiders feel important and inside the loop. Witness government, sports etc. Most of woodturning's googely-gook come from early internet and packet usage and there are glossaries available on the net.

BTW, is ~B the full name, an acronym nicname, or abbreviation? Just kidding!

I especially dislike acronyms in the subject line. If I can't understand the guys subject line I am unlikely to read what else he has to say. "Finishing after LDD"

I don't have a clue and I didn't read this post or the replies.

"Pat" wrote: I especially dislike acronyms in the subject line. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I don't mind that so much, but I really dislike subject lines that are predictably uninformative, like, "Get a clue," or "This is getting tiresome."

sssshhhhhh... Nobody is supposed to know about that.

Oh, I'll be the dumbask! The Cabal - sounds like something Greg G will know.

I'm slowly catching on to some of this "stuff" - but have to be surprised at Pat not picking up on LDD. Isn't that in the Smithsonian collection, too. Basic language? Or is that just Lief's?
