Gerald, if you can drill and tap for a 8 x 32 tpi set screw, drilling a 3/8 hole in the end of a 3/4" piece of cold rolled steel should be a piece of cake. I like B&D Bullet drills. First center punch. Next drill a small hole to depth. (the size of the "bullet" end on the 3/8" drill) Finally, drill the
3/8" hole to depth.I usually do them by eye using the slower speed on a two speed cordless drill. (600 rpms)
This should save about $20.00 of the $25.00; you still have to buy a 36" piece of CRS.
If you want to drill at a 45 degree angle first grind a 45 degree bevel at the end of the CRS rod. Center punch on the flat and drill using the procedure above.
You can also hold metal cutting HSS tool bits in place with CA, JB Weld or epoxy. I prefer to drill and tap for a 8 x 32 tpi set screw.
