additional info on small weaving frames

Is there a pattern for making the looms?

Di you are correct, I thought that there were instructions for building the weaving frame, but there are not. However I think with a good wooden picture frame from the hardware store, nails and a hammer, It is easy to copy the one that is shown there.

Katherine, there is not, sorry, I thought that there was, and I was a bit hasty. I do think though that it is very easy to make a copy of the one in the magazine. That one is not being made any more I think. If you have a hard time getting this magazine, let me know, when I have finished reading it, I can mail it out to you. There are many great patterns and ideas for using the woven squares. Great weekend fun for Kandace.

I didn't know that the actual magazine didn't have the loom instructions. I just figured to peek at the online version of the magazine to see what they showed. Just to see if I could save some money. I can be a tightwad sometimes. (especially this week, after finding out that DS needs 4 wisdom teeth removed and DD is begining phase 2 with braces on the top and bottom) ( and DS's tuition for next year is going up AGAIN)

I think you are right. A picture frame with some nails would make a good loom. My DD has a loom that looks like a picture frame, but there are slits cut into the edges to wrap the yarn onto to. Her art teacher in school last year, made every child do a weaving. Some of the nicest ones were displayed in the county library. Let me tell you, those kids did some really great weavings, using all different types of yarns and fibers.

And while looking at the online magazine version, I found lots of crafts and recipes as well.

I like pin looms. You can make them any size and any shape using foam core board and brads or even sewing pins. They don't last a long time, but long enough for you to decide if you enjoy the process. Then you can make or buy a 'real" loom. I got Martha's magazine, too, and enjoyed the article. I can use my own looms to make any of those projects, tho. But I do own an old weave-it that I bought on ebay.. of course! lol I am presently working on hats and bags for, I hope, a new book. It's going to take awhile, tho. Meantime, here's a little link showing a triangle pin loom, but you can use the same method to make yourself a square.
