aran baby knit

Does anyone have a link for an intricate aran knit for an infant sweater and blanket set?

My niece, who has had a few misses, and has been trying for some time, and has gone through in vitro and all the other fertility treatments and stuff, has just passed her 5th month. This time it's the old fashioned way and so far all is well.

I would really like to make her something special and since she lives in Colorado where it's bitterly cold, I thought maybe an aran knit would be nice.

Or I'm open to any other ideas. Thanks much.

Have I got the pattern for you. I bought it in the 90s (and completed it fairly quickly). It's from Mary Maxim, but they don't seem to show it anymore. It's a complete set, sweater, hat, leggings and blanket. The sweater and blanket contain all the stitches used (cables, pompoms and seed stitch), while the hat is predominantly pompom and the leggings seed (so they won't rub together oddly).

And I've just found it online at

Thank you Tara,

That's the nicest one I've seen and I've been looking for a couple of days. It think it will be perfect.

What a group. You guys always come through with something good.

Like I said, it didn't knit up too slowly. I seem to remember the whole thing taking less than a couple of months. The most tedious was the leggings, probably because of the lack any thing complex about them. The afghan goes rather quickly once you the hang of the repeats.

I'm surprised they no longer have it on their website, as it's a pretty pattern. Not to busy for the size. It look way more intimidating than it is. I can honestly admit I knit every one of those bobbles and didn't go crazy (or maybe I simply went into denial). :-)

Glad to be of help. Also glad I could find it online so you could see it for yourself, and have it immediately.

That is the one I have knitted for all of my grandchildren. Their mothers love it.
