destash

Yesterday I sorted through all my stash and cleared out 3 bin liners of yarn. I took them to OxFam where they make things to sell rather than just sell the wool as most other charity shops.

I have nearly finished the afghan for David and my stash is manageable and I know what I have left:)

O with a (for once) tidy stash:))

Doesn't it feel good to have your stash in order?! It was nice of you to donate what you didn't need anymore to a place where it will be put to good use. A much better feeling than throwing in the trash.

Have fun finishing the afghan.

That sounds like a lot of work but satisfying. We are into a basement cleaning binge right now. Actually, DH started it and I figured I had better get involved before I lost things I cared about. (He throws out stuff with abandon) We have a store room and a laundry/craft room down there. (The latter is finished and has work space that I have largely claimed.) I have started in the store room but plan to move then into the laundry/craft room which holds my stash. I picked up some storage containers at a discount store and hope to get it organized. I also need to sort out my patterns. It is good inside work for this time of year.

Sounds pretty much what we are doing:) I have a workroom downstairs that I share with a large chest freezer. We are decluttering like mad and hope to have a nice space at the end of it. I am determined to have my house totally decluttered by the end of this year!!!!

The basement will do it for me - I am not ready to attack the attic. The first law of storage - junk expands to fill the space provided. I have boxes of files from thirty years of work with the legislature - every now and then someone needs something from them but mostly they just fill space. I am sure my kids don't want any of it - except for the boxes of family stuff.

Hehe David is going to tackle that next. I am hopeless on ladders so I don't go up there (thank heavens)

That is what has got me started really. I would hate the children to have to sort it out. They won't want half the stuff I have, gathered from many years of moving. Well the charity shop is happy:) All my family areas are ok, it is just places like the workroom and loft where we store stuff.

Hi Auntie O,

I need to go through my stash in the room that is supposely mine, but has everything else in it too. I need to sort the yarn again before I buy anymore. I had it organized in the late summer, but went on a yarn buying spree and with the yarn from Wooly I've filled up my containers so will probably have to get a couple new Rubbermaid ones. I won't buy Sterlite again as they have a smell that takes forever to get out.

Will we see a picture of David's afghan?

Hugs,

Nora

You most certainly will:)) Um.. It is a wee bit strange looking but he is very happy with it:)) I first crocheted a square and then crocheted around it. I am afraid there is more than the suggestion of a frill in it but he doesn't care LOL

I need to figure out where I am going to upoad the pic to:))

I will let you know:)

I cannot think of ANYTHING as good as destashing, or getting system and order to it! May be it is because I always feel that there is "something " which should be done! Then it is a great comfort to know that I have "system" in my "own, private stash"! AUD ;-)

I am the offender there - I have old Life magazines (like the moon landing, Kennedy's funeral etc. etc) college notes, bills from past legislative sessions --- paper is my problem. I don't have any trouble cleaning out closets but the storage areas are not good. We are making progress though - I have gotten my stash pretty well settled but there is still work to do on the patterns. My sewing stuff is also in disarray - including patterns. I think this could take weeks. I did go through three big boxes in the basement storeroom today and threw out a lot - old sewing stuff, some toys, etc. Of course, I will admit to finding some "treasures" that had to stay.

I think Andy and Keith must be related. Andy keeps all the computer stuff from forever.

Nora, you might try putting a bar of Irish Spring soap in the Sterlite bin, that helped with the smell of mine. Also, I was told (and I don't know if it's true or not) that Irish Spring helps keep the wool-eating critters away, so there's a double purpose.
