Insult!

The mail just arrived. In it there was a beautifully printed, full color postcard advertising CapitalOne bank. On the front, there is a picture of an elegantly wrapped gift box, and the wording "Whoever said. "It's better to give than to receive" probably had an aunt who like to knit."

Well, I wasn't going to give them any of my business anyhow, but this makes it a certainty.

Looks like the ad man didn't like being given handmade stuff lovingly made :-S

I'd kill for an aunt who knits me stuff!

Boy, does that make me mad! But this will make you feel better. Last week, I sent a little parcel to two of my grandchildren - socks for Kaegan, and socks and mittens for Jesika. The reason Jesika got mittens was that I had just enough matching yarn left from her socks to make them. Kaegan is bigger, so I didn't have enough yarn left to do mittens for him. While he loved his socks, he was upset that Jesika got mittens, too, and wondered why he didn't get any. Why is it that so many commercials think that it is good to make fun of knitters? Or crocheters?

By all means TELL THE BANK! Too often businesses simply assume that some item that was published is perfectly OK. Several years ago I e-mailed MasterCard about their ad showing a woman sitting alone at the opera in a seat very near the front of the house. First off, they were using music from one Mozart opera but a major scene from another, and the scene they were using was at the END of the opera. The woman kept looking around as the ad mentioned the cost of her dress, jewelry, and opera ticket. Suddenly, a gentleman (husband, perhaps?) literally ran down the aisle to her and sat next to her and she smiled, and the ad said his presence was "priceless". WELL! (I huffed a bit) Any gentleman who arrives at the end of an opera is not going to be seated, and certainly won't be seated during a scene at any time during an opera, and even if arriving at a proper time he would be escorted by an usher and not run. And if I were a woman left alone through an opera it isn't very likely that I would so lovingly smile when he finally arrived. Sheesh! I got a very prompt answer to my e-mail saying that they would have that ad reviewed immediately, and never saw it again on TV.

I told my knitting group about this, and they were not happy.
