Knitting for Charity in the UK

Hello All

This post is on behalf of my mother. She would like to know if there are any charities in the UK that accept knitted baby clothes. She loves knitting with a passion but there are no little ones in the family at the moment to knit for.

Any information on people or places that accept finished items would be greatly appreciated - my mother was thinking of hospitals, premature baby units, abused women and children shelters, etc. We live in north east of England but would send finished items anywhere in the UK.

I hope you can help.

Many thanks,

Start with the volunteer office at the local hospital. If they don't/won't accept the items they should be able to put you in touch with a group that will.

Hi Rachel,

Look at the website for Project Linus as there is a chapter in the UK. They may know where she can send articles for little ones.

Hugs,

Here's a few links I found that may be useful

first one is for the Experience Corps, an organisation which invites people aged 50+ to use their skills to make a difference in their local community. I have no personal experience of them, but it sounds interesting! Liz

Cuddles is a very worthwhile charity, I make blankets and burial gowns for them from patterns I've found on their website and elsewhere on the internet. They are very friendly and helpful and very grateful for any donations Love Christine

I'm glad to hear about someone who has experience of them. I was very tempted to donate a few items to them but like to hear from other people first.

I'll add baby items to my list of things I want to make when I get a chance.
