Maybe the writers of the patterns realize you'll need the encouragement to get the second sock started? Don't know myself: think I have a pair started somewhere, and I *think* I started both at once so I wouldn't quit after one was done. Lot of good that did, if neither are done, huh?

LOL Cher, my Mom used to say *almost* the same thing....

A whistling woman and crowing hen (because roosters crow, not the female hen) are neither good for God nor man.

When I asked her what that meant, she said that *her* mother used to say it when *she* would whistle, and that it meant that it wasn't ladylike to whistle. ;o)

Same as shut up then, now why did they think it wasn't ladylike....especially for a seven year old as I was at the time, I took absolutely ages to learn to whistle too, and it was such an achievement....lol
