That sweater is beautiful and I agree with Katherine, it wouldn't be that hard to do. I've done a lot of Mary Maxim and I looked at their other patterns on the site and if you can follow a chart, you could do it. If I still knit I sure would make it.
Alright...alright....I'll order the pattern if someone can suggest an inexpensive alternative yarn. Any ideas? I don't want to spend $65 and screw it up. hehe
What kind of yarn does it take? I just bought a bunch of Brown Sheep's Nature's Pride yesterday. Worsted weight, 245 yds for about $5 at my LYS. I'll be using it for their knit-along, my first adult-sized sweater (with a zipper - yikes!).
I emailed the site owners. They said it's made from Peace Fleece worsted weight yarn. It's a wool/mohair blend. I'm not sure that I've ever seen a wool/mohair blend that was a thick as say a Red Heart worsted weight. Could there be a difference? Has anyone ever used the Peace Fleece yarn?
I haven't used it but I have been seeing lots of references to it recently. Here is a link to their worsted weight yarn:

It says 4 sts/1". The Nature's Pride is 5 sts/1" but the woman I bought it from says she is knitting it at 4/inch right now. Another inexpensive wool yarn that's been getting a lot of attention recently is KnitPicks' new line. They have a wool that is 4.5-5 sts/1" that sells for $1.79 for 110 yds. There's a good review of their yarn (and the link to their site) here:

I haven't used any of their yarn yet but there is a discussion forum on knittersreview if you want to read about other people's experiences. And of course there is always good old Lamb's Pride which is a wool/mohair blend and knits up at 4.5 st/1" and is reasonably priced (190 yds for $6 or 7), though more expensive than the Nature's Pride and KnitPicks. Good luck! I think it would be so great to be walking through your moon garden in that sweater! LauraJ
You know, I think that is why my NYCO is sitting in my knitting basket. THe pattern is all charted, and difficult to read. I need about two years of uninterrupted knitting time to work it out.
