I've ended up with yarn I don't like at times Mirjam, looked ok at the time, got it home tried to crochet or knit it and for some odd reason went straight off of it.

Hi Cher,

I'm working with some like that right now, looked great in the store, but my how it splits when I'm using it and I have four more skeins of it in different colors. Oh well, I can use it on afghans and squares, but definitely won't buy it again. For some reason Lion Brand yarns and I don't get along. LOL

That's why I like the stores that have swatches hung up from the different yarns. I'm often surprised by the texture of a swatch, and the colors look different too.

I totally relate. I feel that way about the Homespun. It is really nice when worked up but for some reason, I get the fibers twisted and stuck as I try to do even a double crochet. It could just be me and the way I work, but I think Nora has stated that she doen not really care for it either.

Hi Diane,

You are right, I dislike that yarn with a passion and their Pound of Love comes in second. LOL If you could have heard me last night while I was stitching something together you would know how much I dislike the Pound of Love. I've given what I had left of the Homespun away. It's just as bad knitting with it too, as I've even tried that.

I bought some Lion brand homespun on ebay, in waterfall, as I loved the colour. I tried both knitting and crocheting with it but it was not easy to use, it seemed to stick to the needles and split very easily, so I scrapped one skein and resold the other 3. I know that many people love this yarn, but not me!

Hi Liz,

Boy, it's nice to know that some of you, like Diane and yourself feel like I do about it. LOL It's something that I tell myself I won't buy again and hope I stick to that the next time it's on sale and I like a color. It's even harder to frog, did you try that?

Hugs,

Nora

Hi Nora

Yes I did try frogging it. That was why the first skein was thrown away. It really wasn't re-usable even after being frogged just once!

Hmmmm.... I used a couple skeins for three projects and didn't find it so bad. Had to watch where the needle tip went and though I had to remake the projects due to sizing, the final work was okay. Yeah, it's not my favorite, but didn't have the bad results you all seem to have experienced.

It's not my favorite either, and I have said I won't use it again, but then I do. I have an afghan started with it now because I couldn't resist the colors. Let's hope I can finish it before I decide to change the color of the room I matched it to :)

Hi BB,

Good luck, are you knitting or crocheting the afghan?

Thanks Nora,

I'm doing a simple ripple crocheted afghan with the colors dark purple, yellow, lime green, and sky blue. (Sort of a grass, flower, sky image in my mind). I'm being more relaxed about making perfect stitches than usual, which is the one advantage to using this yarn. I have knitted mittens with this yarn and I think knitting was easier than crocheting.

Add me to the list of people who can't stand it! I have about 3/4 of a skein left and am wondering what little project I can do just to use it up. I was thinking maybe some reusable baby wipes or washcloths but wasn't sure if acrylic would work for that.

I know it's a popular yarn and I thought it was just me having problems with it. I have to add that I mainly knit 4 ply, double knit or aran weights and find larger needles hard work due to arthritis in my hands. I can manage natural fibres with larger needles, up to about a 6.5mm needle, but synthetics are harder and I now limit them to a 5mm needle or smaller. I'm not sure why this is!

I like using larger needles - over 6.5 mm/10½ - or my hand cramps up. Things also knit up faster with larger ones.... ;)

Hi Laura,

Make yourself a scarf with it. That is what I ended up doing, using large knitting needles and about ten stitches and garter stitch.

Liz and Sue, I know find I don't have as many hand pains if I stick to the N size crochet hook. I can use smaller, but do like the bigger one.

Nora

Make a stocking hat: on appropriately large needles, knit a tube; when you run out of yarn, draw the yarn through and tighten. Then donate the hat to a good cause.

Ugly wool is why they make fiber reactive dye.
